My estimate was a little low earlier. Took a measurement and it’s 9.5cm here.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Snow is getting lighter now but still coming down at a good pace, flakes are smaller too. It's sticking to the tree branches.
Question about measuring: when it's not sticking to the cleared ground (or wooden deck) but is sticking to the snow, I'm guessing that you don't count it?? Is this right?

It's too warm to do anything but look pretty downtown, but it's fun to hear all the clients walk in and complain

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Had some moderate snow here earlier this afternoon but the temperature was still above zero so nothing was sticking.
I’ve finally dropped to 0.9C but the moisture band is gone now.

Just got home -- snowing lightly and just a trace here. Paved surfaces are all wet and it's also having trouble sticking to all other surfaces with no snow cover.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
That's a good idea. I was just wondering if that's an acceptable measurement because snow would be melting on a snow board but it has fallen so???Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 3:48 pm I am measuring mine on the ice of a a compacted tire rut.
Still falling here but tiny flakes and much lighter.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
I think Rubus' measurements are acceptable, as it seems as though EC does this too. Check out February 22nd-24th, 2014 observations at YVR: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... 14&Month=2#Roberts Creeker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 27, 2023 4:03 pm That's a good idea. Still falling here but tiny flakes and much lighter.
Records indicate 23.4cm fell at YVR during this three-day period, yet depth never was over 1cm due to an insane amount of melt and compaction.
Was one of the most extreme variation snow events I've ever witnessed around here. Snow depth as some places close to the water and/or near sea level never rose much above 5-10cm and barely even stuck to the pavement but at some inland locales and/or at higher elevations, depth was well over 30cm.
Upper westwood plateau picked up around 50-60cm during that event and many roads were completely impassable. In contrast, down the hill at the neighbourhoods near Coquitlam Centre and in my area of east Coquitlam, depth never topped ~15cm and the roads remained wet for the most part.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Just got home to Tsawwassen and it’s actually snowing and sticking here too. Roads are just slushy but most paved surfaces are starting to get a layer of snow at least. Would be nice if it stuck around a bit now that we’re losing solar insulation but it will probably taper off soon. I’d call this a definite W for the banana belt, it’s not easy to get a daytime snowfall so late in the season out here
