True, many areas on the SE sides of the lakes have gotten massive snowfalls this winter, which will always cause problems. I didn't know about the state of emergency though, that is pretty crazy.Weather101 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:37 am The snow belts in Ontario have been receiving crazy amounts of snow all winter. Highway shutdowns and a state of emergency.
But what you said is very true; the traffic in Toronto is the most painful thing. I'm not sure if you have ever been, but you would want to scream. You can be stuck downtown for an hour on a five-minute commute. So, if this were a weekday, Toronto would be shut down.
Don't get me wrong, the traffic is still bad on weekends, but unlike Vancouver, If they say 10+ cm of snow and it's a weekend, people stay home. It looks like Lake Enchantment off Lake Ontario, so downtown could see 20 cm.![]()
Toronto on the other hand, always struggles with any 10cm+ snowfall. It's always funny hearing them make fun of Vancouver when their city essentially ends up in the same boat during a significant snowfall. It is slightly better, but they still don't tend to deal with it very well.
Out of all major cities in Canada, I'd say Quebec City, Montreal, and Winnipeg tend to handle large snowfalls the best. Vancouver and Toronto are both bottom of the list for sure.
