Having spent some time in Toronto during my life, I always figured that was why it was settled. It shocked me how quickly snow could disappear in the winter, as compared with most surrounding areas.

Surrounding areas can hold their snow for most of the winter. In Toronto, it can disappear in days, especially if you are close to Lake Ontario.

Btw how are you liking Squamish? Waltz didn't you live up by QE park in Vancouver? that was a gold area for snowfall.

Yes, from QE, and Squamish is great - it's gold plus... though a little dry this year so far

Snow gets old real fast in those snowbelts. You feel imminent dread when you see clouds moving in during a cold day.

I still have PTSD from my brief years out there.

Certainly looks like we are done with the snow based on the trends. This mornings runs supress the southern stream until we see the warm up.

What did it for me was springtime.

I went to college in a valley in northern Utah was on paper just a notch colder than the main Wasatch Front cities. Sounds like no big deal, right?

Here's the thing, though: for each winter snowfall, a little bit less would melt in Logan than in SLC, Ogden, etc. So the snow would last a little bit longer, reflecting sunlight and making things all the more colder, making the snow longer yet. The next snowfall would fall in bare ground elsewhere, but would add to the Logan snowpack. Rinse, lather, repeat for a whole winter, and by early March there is a foot or two of dense, heavy snow on the ground. And because it's old snow, it's ugly, dirty snow. And because it's dense, it melts slowly.

On every sunny spring day, you hear the weather report on the news on the SLC television stations about what yet another beautiful spring day it was in Utah. Except it wasn't a beautiful spring day in Logan. It was yet another raw, cold day with dirty snow all over the place, and not a green thing in sight.

Then they would show the state high temperature map. In Fahrenheit, since this was the USA. A sea of 50's and 60's, with 70's in the south. And there was Logan, with another 38. Sun, schmun, it didn't matter. It was mostly being bounced back out to space by that dense foot or two of snow. Which was melting ever so slooooooowly.

Finally it is the first week in May. The ugly dirty snow finally finished disappearing last month, and things have at long last warmed up and greened up. It is spring. It is beautiful. Oh, sure, everything is running a full month later than most of the rest of the state, but it doesn't matter. It is warm, everything is green, flowers are blooming.

And the next morning there are eight inches of slushy May snow on the ground. Only in Logan, of course, the main Wasatch Front cities were just a notch warmer and got cold rain overnight. They get another warm, sunny spring afternoon in the strong May sun. I get wet flurries and slush.

What took you to Squamish though? Antler lived out here then Cranbrook then found his weather back east. Man wish l had that luxury.

Without being too personal, let's just say my desire to hike and ski and explore the backcountry, plus I'm a remote IT worker. I love it here.

Yah, l don't know l'm 65 and sometimes l got the itch to move elsewhere. I've lived in B.C. all my life do l go to a snowier climate or just stay put since it's what l'm use too. I don't know anyone else get that moving desire? maybe it's just a retirement age thing.

A few flakes drifting down all morning, not really accumulating but very pretty and there's still snow on the trees and 6-8" on the ground. Clouds moving in too, it was blue sky not long ago.

Yes that's true, Chilliwack is pretty remote as in distance to Vancouver. So l guess that's a plus.. I always thought further north but probably not good for emergencies i.e. health etc. well it's just thoughts.
