Not an expert on the topic but it looks like it's still about 7-10 days away.

Effects on the lower atmosphere usually lag by a few weeks after the SSW takes place.

Anyone have snow/ZR maps from the ECMWF for Sun into Mon? NE/E winds from the Interior + overrunning moisture. Surely something for the Valley.

wetcoast91 wrote: Tue Dec 22, 2020 10:37 am That is good or bad depending on what weather you want. Strong Greenland block with a +PNA. Pretty much can keep a pattern LOCKED for weeks. Strong potential to see JFM 2010 or 2015 with this

Not saying it will happen as the monthly forecasts have been garbage thus far.
I would hasten to point out that winters 2009/2010 and 2015/2016 were el nino years. And as you said, the monthlies have been garbage. We could be in a moment when the historical data is no longer valid, because of a changing climate, globally.

Yeah I think there will be messy and chaotic model runs while the SSW is taking place. I think mid January is a good bet for arctic air.
-ENSO/+QBO and a major SSW should do the trick.

Until then...winter cancel on the American forums.

Stolen from Tim

Good chilly zonal flow at the end of the run. Not bad.

Still thousands of customers without power in the lower mainland from the heavy wet snow. Current number is at 20,360.

Is anyone on here affected by any of the outages?

Not me. I don't know if they still are but my family in East Maple Ridge was without power this morning from yesterday still. They have a generator so they were/are fine without the power.
