Excellent analysis. Thanks for sharing. The strongest analog mentioned is 2021/22. I'd take a December 2021 repeat every winter.Canada Goose wrote: ↑Sun Sep 21, 2025 10:12 am https://badweatherkyle.com/fall-and-win ... ast-202526

Re: Fall/Winter 2025/2026 Discussions & Predictions
1981/82 would be considered top tier by our current standards. YXX had several snowfalls from the end of December through January. Peak snow depth of 38cm on January 3rd. Warmed up somewhat for a while but then another cold spell brought more significant snow with a max snow depth of 29cm on January 23rd before the snow changed to freezing rain and then to rain. Total rainfall for the 23rd was 76.7mm. Not sure how much of that was freezing rain vs straight rain. Either way, would have been a dynamic weather event. Moving on to February 1982, an Atmospheric River struck the region with YXX reporting 150.9mm in 48hrs. Then later in the month yet another cold period hit the region with another significant snowfall. YXX reported 26.4cm on the 23rd with a max snow depth of 19cm on the 24th. Probably the closest most recent analog to 1981/82 was 2021/22. Historic November rainfall for the Fraser Valley followed by a nearly two week period of pure arctic air with several low elevation snowfalls.
I'd take a 2021/22 repeat any winter.
