The theme right across the southern half of BC is much colder than forecast lows..and its only 7:30pm

Merritt already at -11c and forecast Low is -13c. I think it will be much colder there overnight..in a normally kinda bommy interior area. Other southern cities already very cold as well.

Good call Nito! Cold pool
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++ 8-)

Hmmm...maybe John could be right. Didn't think it would drop much below -7c tonight in sheltered locations.

Something seems fishy about the temperature sensor at YXX. It's way colder than any other station in the vicinity.

Can't be the dewpoint way too much moisture around.

Temp sitting at 0.6c. Surface is definitely colder though - slush and water on the sidewalk and road is freezing up.
Freezing fog here. Currently at -1C and everything is frozen. Sheer ice in sections on the sidewalks and my driveway.

My high was only 2C and still a solid snow cover. Safe to call a white Christmas?

arbetrader wrote: Mon Dec 21, 2020 5:11 pm Hey I noticed something - perhaps some of you smarter than I can help figure this one out...

Highway 3 (Allison pass weather station) was reporting -2.8C and HEAVY snow pretty much all day today. Yet - Gibson pass ski area (manning ski area - 10kms to the south) was PLUS 4 and raining, can you believe it?

Abbotsford was snowing all afternoon. Yet Mt Baker ski area was also PLUS 4 and raining today. Sasquatch mountain base area was -1.8C and snowing hard all day.

How is this possible? The cold trough must have been literally right in place between Manning Park lodge (I called in and they confirmed it was snowing there), but they didn't have phone service. TWN also was reporting 3C and rain on their weather app for the ski area.

What gives?

Reason I really care is because I was planning on skiing there tuesday... Perhaps not going to go now - Allison pass has had over 40cm already today. Crazy to think the ski area had rain lol - it's at 4800ft altitude lol
Just got back from Manning Park. That was not even close to the truth. Storm total we got 50-60 cms of powdery snow I would casually estimate. This morning was especially great because with the highways closed there was barely anybody to ski the powder. Did you make it up there in the end?

So you travel outside of the Fraser health authority?

It is in Fraser Health. Also I kind of don't care about people travelling, as long as people don't spread covid when they do it. I travelled from fraser health to VCH for 3 months to work in close contact with maskless kids who aren't capable of covering their mouths to cough.

That's a lot different than my wife and I going up on a mountain and not going within 10 feet of other people and being outdoors. There wasn't a single other person in the campsite.
