I know Port Alberni did for sure. Was there during that heatwave.

The July 2006 heatwave was a quick hitter but was even hotter... temps hit 36.7c on the 21st in Pitt Meadows.
YXX hit 37.9 on July 11, 2007, and AbbyWx's station hit 39.0 on that day (if I remember correctly). I believe that was his hottest recorded temperature so far. Interesting to see how the different areas fared...

Lets not forget those -20c/-25c temps forecasted last Feb got into the 72-96hr range too.
Hopefully you are right but I'm not convinced. Remember, those crazy historical cold temperatures we have sometimes seen modelled in the winter rarely if ever had support from the Euro. They were always outliers. This event has support from most models including the Euro. In fact, the Euro has put out 40+ on multiple runs. I'm not saying we will hit those extreme temperatures but I wouldn't go as far as you say it's a given we won't either.

The only "official" recording of 40C on record in the Fraser Valley was Stave Falls in June, 1925. I don't know if I trust that number because Chilliwack and Agassiz were only 36-37 and Vancouver (PMO) was only 33. Still, Victoria Gonzales Hts was 35, and New West was supposedly 37, so there is an outside chance this is accurate. Agassiz has come close to 40, with the highest being August 10, 1898 when the temperature was 39.4C (103F). Nothing close in 2009.

If the GFS and ECMWF do not waver once we get into the 48-72hr range then I'll be more convinced. Until then I seriously doubt we see anything over 38c across the lower mainland.

18Z RGEM for 11PM Saturday night. Abbotsford sitting at a balmy 28c. That'll be an uncomfortable sleep.

Not dead.

Half living though since my 2nd kid popped out. He's been an absolute terror and the heat stresses him out....you can already tell he's a winter lover.

18z goes insane with the central and northern interior temps early next week. Mid 30s - low 40s from Williams Lake to Fort St John.

Nice to have you back. 8-)

Looks like it'll be hot enough for some roasted pineapples this weekend.

My bet is 35 in YVR, 38-40 in the Fraser Valley and 43-45 in the usual hot spots.

35 YVR would break the all-time record. Yikes.

12Z EPS has 37 out of 50 members showing Abbotsford with a high of 38c or higher for Sunday. It has 28 of 50 members showing a high of 40c or higher on Monday. Let that sink in.
