The low veers too far offshore. Looks like another good blow event for Vancouver Island.

We get blasted with some nice +9C rain.

I'm starting to wonder if the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley will ever see an old school windstorm. They used to occur way more frequently. Nowadays it's extremely rare to get a deep low to take the classic region wide windstorm track. Lame.

Our new climate generates outflow windstorms which keep us dry during overrruning setups.

Last major outflow windstorm was February 2019 so even those are rare here.

You know I was just wondering the same thing earlier today! Why do so many of our cyclones nowadays seem to bomb out over the ocean and then just suddenly come to a stall offshore before weakening? It feels like strong lows no longer cross souther-central VI, and even if they make it to land, it's a radidly unraveling low crossing the northern tip of VI.

I read something about how the jet stream is getting weaker which is why it's more loopy now and able to deliver more extreme heat and cold events to unusual latitudes than ever before. Is this weaker jet stream no longer able to drive storms into the coast like it used to? And, has someone already done an academic paper on this?

Well, no power here for 24 hrs. Wires down; poles snapped and plenty of trees down and snapped in half. Hydro has been going full out since last night. We lost a big fir tree, which was torn out by the roots. It landed away from the house, parallel to the road.
