My extended family out there are in for it again this winter. They saw snow on the ground for months last year and it nearly reached 2 meters in some areas. They had a string of less than average snowfall in the early 2020's but the Hudson vortex looks to be a dominant feature again this winter.

just wondering..
when you go visit in winter, and the mid and longe range calls for a snowy winter out there, do you tell all your nieces and nephews that the troff will be out west this winter?
Asking for a friend..
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++

I know I'm biased but I still think we'll get our turn this winter. Solid chance the cold shifts west for a period at some point.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 2:23 pm My extended family out there are in for it again this winter. Decent run. Quite a few snow chances throughout the 2nd week of Dec.

Re: November 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
A question for all the much more knowledgeable people on this forum. Why in the winter does long term forecasts always have a cold bias? I'm 61 and it has always seemed that way. Snow phone ( I know it gets mentioned at times on this forum by the senior crowd ) 14 day Weather Network forecast etc. always seems to have snow/cold lurking at the end of the run. With AI, megacomputers with mass amounts of data you would think it would improve. To the snow lovers out there don't lose faith as things can change quickly.

My info may be dated but longer range modeling suffer from reliable input and also factor in finer details such as the impacts of ocean warmth and topography. Cold air is often too aggressively featured and snow totals are usually exaggerated.Flakey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 9:15 pm A question for all the much more knowledgeable people on this forum. Re: November 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
Ensembles have been pretty consistent showing arctic air settling into the north and interior during the first couple weeks of Dec. Wouldn't take much of a shift to get in on a little action here with some marginal setups, although I think we'll remain primarily on the wetter side with mountain snows until later on in the month.

Re: November 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
It is true this is a very difficult region to forecast due to the factors you mentioned. Part of me understands blown snow forecasts as we can bewetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 9:21 pm My info may be dated but longer range modeling suffer from reliable input and also factor in finer details such as the impacts of ocean warmth and topography. marginal temperature wise and that really hasn't changed in my lifetime. ( Lived in a low lying part of Surrey until I was 10 and would can so upset
seeing cars with snow on them and nothing at my house.) I also believe using historical data with the new climate reality can be troublesome.
