Not surprisingly, the old daily records for greatest snowfall and most snow on the ground at YVR have just been obliterated.

Mind boggling event. I know it doesn't meat Typeing's standards but for me the January curse is officially over. We had a top tier event in the middle of January, not straddling another month and nobody really missing out (ok Horseshoe Bay, but its Horseshoe Bay).

Not only that, but we've had 3 top tier cold+snow events in 3 years, something that definitely hasn't happened in decades. That's crazy stuff in our current climate.

And I am left thinking once again, how will we be able to top this?

Had moderate snow keep up for a while but down to light flurries now.

5cm since 1pm. Up to 33.5cm total. 31cm settled depth on the grass -- pretty much the entire ruler length.

Managed to eke out another 5 mm from random lingering flurries, so standing at 30.5 cm for the day, which maps to an even foot of snow.

Every winter for the past three now I’ve scored one of these big dumps, each time it happens I tell myself to fix it in my memory because it’s going to be a while before I see a repeat, and then a repeat happens far sooner than expected.

Going into an El Niño winter after two snowy ones, I was sure I was going to struggle to get to the 30 cm mark for the season, and I just did better than that in a single day.

I don't even think any professional meteorologist expected a top tier arctic blast and snowstorm this winter given the strong El Niño.

vs. scoreboard update!

I've finally settled on a criteria which might make it a fairly even fight each year:
scores per day* without AND tmax > 0 AND tmin > -10
scores per cm of , PLUS each day where tmax < 0 OR tmin < -10
*in meteorological winter (i.e. Dec 1 to Feb 28/29)

I don't even think any professional meteorologist expected a top tier arctic blast and snowstorm this winter given the strong El Niño.

The last El Nino ended up half decent due to a SSW as well. Those will always have potential to keep us in the ball game.

Snow stopped awhile ago. Pretty sure we got close to what was predicted maybe 10cm didn’t measure. It’s been snowing again for the past 15-20 mins.

23 cm total, might be a bit more because I didn't clear and measure the amounts. A slight breeze has come up and snow is dropping off the trees.

Very happily surprised by EC hourly forecast from 4 pm though tomorrow. They're saying snow will be around tomorrow and more incoming.

They did a good job predicting the snow times so far... Anyone else predicting snow tomorrow?

I measured 28cm. We just came out from tobogganing and our little hill was busy.

What time is precipitation coming tomorrow? I am planning to ski but I will need to be home by 6:30pm.
