But it's cool how if a system is moving up the coast they get cold air drawn back in. Unlike here it opens the door to the westerlys.

Yep. New York got only about 10cm of snow last winter.

I'd say the occurance of big snowstorms across the PNW has declined more over the last few decades in comparison to the east coast. Hence the more rapid reduction in average snowfall (especially for coastal and lower elevation locales).

Systems moving up the east coast can draw in arctic air from the NW in behind. Similar to how arctic air from the N/NE follows coastal sliders here.

Yes but they get those often. We don't get sliders much.

I wouldn't say they get them often. Usually only one or two per winter, and can go a few years without any.

Those storms tend to be quite big and hence get huge media attention. The eastern media bias plays a big part in that too.

I think this run looks better tbh but nothing is going to save us in the "believable" range trough. That trough looking far too East to hit us. We've pushed it back this far, what's another few days..

Edit: Then the block becomes too squished. Doesn't look favourable unless something miraculous happens.

I'm now at 52.3mm for today so far. Looks like Abbotsford may have been in the bullseye of the heavy rain, which is fairly rare.
