Frequently see people on the american forum claiming their location has the longest cold or snow drought in the PNW. Relative to average, I'd say YVR is easily in first place.

[*] Stat 3: YVR has had only two days with a high below -3c in the past 13 years.

[*] Stat 5: Of the last 13 years, only one has exceeded the annual snowfall average at YVR.

It is still unbelievable. Never thought I'd see something like that happen. Not only the magnitude of the heat but also the duration...

I remember one night when it finally cooled down to about 25C around 11pm. It felt so refreshing!

From a statistical standpoint, it was incredible. Nothing else in the period of record even comes close.

If we're looking for any type of equivalent to the late June 2021 heatwave in terms of cold, I'd say the only one would be the late Jan/early Feb 1893 arctic blast: https://climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_d ... me=Agassiz

I’m now settled into my short-term rental for the month of November. Hopefully I can work the same sort of magic for Vancouver that I worked for Bellingham last February (got buried, while spots even 10 km to the north got mostly skunked, such was the location of the northern edge of the storm track). Of course, it will probably happen around the end of the month when I move into my long-term rental.

Ridging in November is a good sign for December. It will retrograde into the GOA and the trough will move over BC.

December '68 event was a step down from the 1893 event, which is most definitely the gold standard for arctic blasts around these parts.

I'd say the late December 1968 event was about on par, or even a slight step down from the the Jan 1909 event.
