Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
There seems to be a lot of certainty about winds here tomorrow but in the maps it looks like the low centre will be elongated. I recall hearing somewhere that sometimes means the low doesn't quite manage to produce winds as strong as it ought to. Are there thoughts from more experienced members?

Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
SE sucker as the low almost parallels the coast as it swings north. If you are in an area that experiences strong winds from the SE it should be a pretty good blow tomorrow. This trajectory is not what we typically see with our big widespread damaging wind storms. Those typically have a more west to east trajectory and have the strongest gusts from the SWVanCitySouth wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:25 pm There seems to be a lot of certainty about winds here tomorrow but in the maps it looks like the low centre will be elongated. The August 2015 event was a SE windstorm. They're pretty significant events across the lower mainland.Monty wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:44 pm SE sucker as the low almost parallels the coast as it swings north. My area (east coquitlam) often gets hit harder with SE winds rather than the classic SWly events.

The center of that storm (crossing south/central Vancouver island) was a more classic windstorm track than what the models are showing now

Interesting to note that location matters that much for getting a good blow.

Interesting read, especially about the dark area on the water vapour image.Hound wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 12:42 pm A Meteorological "Bomb" Will Hit Northern Vancouver Island On Tuesday.

Well some locations can affect the " quality" of a good blow.

Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Abbotsford should do well in terms of strong winds then. If I understand correctly, we are not sheltered from the S and SE winds here.Monty wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 1:44 pm SE sucker as the low almost parallels the coast as it swings north. It’s been absolutely pouring this afternoon. Probably pushing 40mm here now.

I was snowing hard in Errington- to warm for it to stick, but near 0 visibility.

Re: November 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Gotta be at the right place, right time. Great blows to be had in Stanley Park in 2006, or white Rock pier in 2018 for example.Weather101 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:59 pm Well some locations can affect the " quality" of a good blow.
