Those are all really pretty but I think I'll stay put, they're either too hot in summer and I was surprised at how cold they all got. maybe if my water system didn't freeze at -10 I'd be ok with the colder.

Fair enough. These might be better then, since they have cooler summers and warmer winters than the others:

Either of those would be nice! I also realized I was reading record high as average high, they changed it on some of them so Portland wouldn't be too bad except for being across the border.

What about Montana? It's beautiful down there and lots of snow...I'm sure it's not +3 snow thought.

I'm still leaning towards Anchorage or Juneau any climotology graphs for those two locales. They seem to get comfortable summers yes at times hot but not overdone winter is cold but not overdone. In other words it does moderate eventually regarding hot and cold spells. Seems they would be fun city's to track weather as well.
You'd get your snow fix Anchorage perhaps more but Juneau can do well also.

Not sure I have an ideal climate but I know what I don't want:

- a tropical/equatorial climate
- a cool/muggy/rainy summer

I've lived in Toulouse and Paris (France) and Quebec City and Vancouver (Canada). Big differences, heh.

I like warm and dry summers (like this one), I can go running by 35°C (I did it by 40°C in Toulouse in 2003) but I hate the heat for sleeping, so I need cool nights (10-14°C) or AC...
In winter, I love snow and cold but I hated the fake springs in Quebec City.
I think some places in the southern French Alps (Briançon) would be nice. But honestly, I like the climate of Vancouver.

There's a few other cities with similar climates around the region too, like Saint John:

And Charlottetown:

Would you still choose Halifax out of that bunch?
I like the climate of the Maritime provinces in general, but I think I would still choose Halifax if given the choice. I'm just really drawn to the scenery around the Halifax area and I love the dynamic weather in the winter, specifically the freeze-thaw cycles that I think are more common there than in areas further north into New Brunswick and PEI. That said, I've never been to the Maritimes before so my opinions are based merely on research I've done and pictures I've seen online. Therefore, I may change my mind if and when I get a chance to visit the area. There's a good chance I'll get there when we move to Ottawa, since we will be a lot closer. :D

I'm curious to know how many people would choose Florida as their ideal climate? For me, I absolutely love the fact that thunderstorms are almost a daily occurrence there in the summer. When we went to Orlando in 2017, we saw a really cool thunderstorm with almost non-stop lightning for at least an hour. Heavy rain also accompanied the storm but the lightning started before the rain.

That said, I would choose Ottawa over Orlando any day, since Ottawa also gets lots of thunderstorms (not as much as Florida but enough to satisfy me) but they also get cold and snow in the winter, something almost non-existent in Florida. Ottawa also has periods where it is not hot and humid whereas Florida is hot and humid every day in the summer. The weather is a lot less dynamic in Florida but the daily thunderstorms are a nice feature of the area. :D

As you can probably guess, I could never handle a Floridian climate. I abhor heat. So, I too would choose Ottawa over Orlando since you get some respite from the heat in the winter months.

Not only that, no mountains (FL is the flattest state), and lots of mosquitoes (swampiest state).
It's called clown range for a reason.
