Re: Winter 2022-23
Looks back-loaded for us, which actually works for safety in December for my wife and I but I would love some snow around Christmas too...

Re: Winter 2022-23
Maybe we'll finally get out first cold January (monthly mean temp <1c or <0c @YVR) on the south coast since 1993. One can dream!

Re: Winter 2022-23
Less snow than average for the N Washington and BC coast mountains coupled with above average snowfall for S Washington, Oregon and California mountains leads me to believe cooler and drier than normal for us locally, with a suppressed jet pattern dominating. Similar to 2016-17.Coquitlam79 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 7:03 pm ecmwf-winter-2022-2023-snowfall-forecast-united-states-canada.png
Looks like Nov-March 2000-2001.
Of course, it could also mean split flow, but the high concentration of precip up and down the US west coast from California to Washington doesn't suit that pattern.

Re: Winter 2022-23
Yah it's a tough call this far out Tright, l'm reserving my prediction till afew months from now its 50/50 IMO as to how this winter will play out. As mentioned many times been burnt may times over the years with cold and snowy outlooks that busted.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 7:33 pm Less snow than average for the N Washington and BC coast mountains coupled with above average snowfall for S Washington, Oregon and California mountains leads me to believe cooler and drier than normal for us locally, with a suppressed jet pattern dominating. I'll take a 2016/17 repeat any winter.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 7:33 pm Less snow than average for the N Washington and BC coast mountains coupled with above average snowfall for S Washington, Oregon and California mountains leads me to believe cooler and drier than normal for us locally, with a suppressed jet pattern dominating. Agreed. It’s really the most plausible explanation for that map that I can think of.Typeing3 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 21, 2022 7:33 pm Less snow than average for the N Washington and BC coast mountains coupled with above average snowfall for S Washington, Oregon and California mountains leads me to believe cooler and drier than normal for us locally, with a suppressed jet pattern dominating. Also note the area of blue in SE Vancouver Island. Strait effect snow from recurring Fraser outflow events?
It's called clown range for a reason.
