I can’t ever recall there being this much chaos on the roads during a snowstorm.

What the heck is going on.

This is next level insanity.

Wouldn't even consider this a snowstorm.... it's a fairly run-of-the-mill winter snowfall even by Vancouver standards.

Never seen the roads this bad for this little amount of snow. Weird...

People are going to be stuck till the morning shift..

But a couple things I had in mind, Number 1 people really need to keep water bottles, Blankets, Flash lights and some food in there car. The public was warned 48 hours ahead of time, I made sure to have water and stuff like that JUST in case. I get the frustration people have right now which is justified but small things like that go a long way. Even not going to work knowing the Tuesday evening commute was going to be a mess ( not everyone has the luxury) which I understand.

Another thought, This shows how screwed we are going to be if we ever have to evacuate due to a Tsunami/Earthquake. Like we are going to be cut off from the rest of the world and the chaos that will assue will be huge.

As for why tonight was so bad... I have to guess it's the fact that it's so early in the year and the snow hit at peak rush hour times. Just completely shut down the city and the highways. All in all this proves how the public and the city can't deal with anything.

Going to be a snow day, morning rush in 2 hours not going to happen.
Picked up 1.5cm with this snow shower up to 11cm now due to settled snow passed Gumps.

I just drove from Abbotsford to Chilliwack and it was nasty. Heavy wet snow. Visibility poor. At least most people were driving responsibly lol

Ah great my measurements are close to yours, slight dip in measuring area possibly will look for a 12cm spot to synchronize with yours your not far from me.

Well, you tried your best. Tonight was just insane for so many reasons.

Many are saying it's the worst The Lower Mainland has ever done in a snowstorm with multiple routes closed or too treacherous to get through. Apparently a LOT of people had 5-7 hour commutes tonight, some people abandoned their cars to just walk and others just stayed overnight at work or a hotel. I heard hotels are booked up everywhere.

I wonder what happened that made today way worse of a nightmare than usual? Was it the high precip rates? Time of day? Pure chance that many routes plus their alternates were a mess?

In any case, tonight will go down in history for many people. I wonder if we will get any insight into why it was SO bad.
I am currently wondering if there will be school tomorrow for my daughter.

My theory is : they used brine on the road’s instead of salt. In our opinion brine is fantastic, but not in a snowfall situation. The salt granuals last longer as they crush and turn to brine under the snow.
Really a complete failure of the highway maintenance crews.

Up to 12cm @ the pond in south Sardis 10cm for the 29th, 2cm since midnight on the 30th with this continuing snow shower. It's currently -1c with a stiff NE outflow.
