This may come across as discriminatory but it may be time to incorporate winter weather driving training into licensing. It's clear we have a larger population that doesn't have a clue how to drive in these conditons. Far too many scenes of people not knowing how to deal with minor spinouts.

For example my neighbor just complained to me that he was stuck on a small hill for 6 hours cars sliding down like sleds, himself included. When I ask him do you have winter tires, his reply was "it doesn't snow in Vancouver why should I buy them". I was like WTF

It is amazing since Covid have many people don't want to work and how many companies are screaming for employees, but that's for another thread.

If employers paid a living wage, maybe more people would want to work from them. It's a really simple concept

I think even just enforcing having people have winter/all season tires between certain months of the year would do a lot.

This seems like a definite line we will hear. Spend millions on a "Study" while paying the bureaucracy for doing...nothing!
Then they will reward themselves with bonuses and pay raises

When I drove through the tunnel yesterday at 3pm the roads were mostly just wet since it looked like they put brine down earlier in the day. I didn’t see any salt trucks or plows driving around on highway 99 or highway 17 during my travels. By the time the heavier snow started, I’m guessing the brine was mostly gone and snow and ice accumulated quickly on the roads. Did anyone else see many salt trucks or plows on the major routes yesterday? Normally I see lots of them on the roads when the snow starts to accumulate..

Legal limit on commercial tires is 1.5mm of tread depth which is insane for winter. They will run as best they can without chains and proper tires, often running transport tires with little traction type grip but excellent long life and fuel economy.

You live in the best location for snow in a 30 mile radius minus Bby Mtn and N shore mtns. Nice wayyy back. Smart man.
Especially when you factor in your elevation..not even 600 feet ASL? Awesome snow micro climate

Will only continue to get worse as the population grows and they drive on the roads, unprepared, with in-adequate tires and driving skills.

Sounds like an NDP thing to do. The study will say drivers should adapt to proper tires as salt is bad for the environment and people should take the bus or be properly equipped. We don't need more salt or cars on the road. Employers should pay their employees to leave and work from home before the snow gets here and make arrangements to have all employees work from home if transit is unavailable.

I'm happy with this snow event in Pitt Meadows. I got close to 15 cm. Got up at 3:30 am to let the dog out and it was still snowing lightly.

Living wage according to the government, accountants, and others is about $16.50 an hour, so pretty sure employers pay well as most pay well over that. I think people either are lazy, feel entitled, unaware of how much they cost to employ, and have poor work ethics. https://www.livingwageforfamilies.ca/be ... e_employer

That being said, Mainroads / Emil Anderson road maintenance crews have all their wages posted online. The would be getting $40 - $55 per hour for road clearing work. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would be happy with that wage.
