Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
I grew up in snow country, and the first significant snowfall of every season always featured lots of drivers doing stupid things. (It is as if many people think the laws of physics relating to friction might have changed over summer or something.) On subsequent snowfalls, the quality of winter driving becomes much more realistic and responsible. The rub is, we often get only one significant snowfall per season, so never get beyond that initial learning stage.
Also, the first PNW winter I experienced, I was aghast at how poorly plowed and sanded the roads tended to be. We just don’t have the amount of equipment that snowier places do. That alone makes winter driving much harder here. Add that to the lack of practice and it is not a pretty picture.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
To be fair, lots of people did wait it out and still got stuck in the mess. Perhaps employers should have been more active in shutting things down and letting people go before the snow came in. Not realistic for all scenarios, but even a little would have helped. I got off work at midnight, sat around until 3am and it still took me 1.5 hours to get home.wetcoast91 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 9:47 am Some clips I have seen...
Sure you can blame the municipalities and the BC MOT but I knew as a 16 year old driver that snow/ice and hills are very risky to event attempt and there is no where to go if you get stuck. I would have either better planned my route or stuck it out at restaurant instead of attempting the journey.

I meant the 6 extra low centres (mesos???) of the same pressure as the parent low

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
Some stratospheric warming modelled over Siberia. I don't think it would be considered a SSW event but I wonder if this could still cause the models to struggle in the extended?
