This is why I shifted careers to surveying and forestry years ago and left the field of climatology. There is just no worth to it.

The underfunding of Environment Canada is chronic issue. Meanwhile, government continues to dump money into all manners of useless garbage which I will not name because this is not the politics thread.

So far ECMWF Ensemble doesn’t quite agree but I will check when the teleconnection updates also. The previous update from ECMWF Ensemble agrees somewhat with a neutral PNA forecast but it’s far into clown range.

The closures in stations is quite astonishing too. Metro Vancouver had far better coverage even well over half a century ago roughly between the 1940s and 1990s, when many stations began shutting down, which continues today.

Somehow a growing population in our region has meant less stations in communities that often have extremely varied conditions due to the microclimates that exist here. And we're stuck with the official station representing the Vancouver region being situated right at sea level along the strait of Georgia.

Don't get me started on all the issues with EC these days! Let me just say that it seems like a low priority for funding by the Feds even though the impacts of weather especially of the severe type would make you think that the budget should be a lot higher so they could attract more and better qualified meteorologists.

Overall a wetter and milder trend is coming.

The PNA doesn’t reach neutral until roughly day 15 which is too clown range to believe right now

What do you expect to get paid for a hobby? You sit at a desk, don’t really create or build. It is like being paid to guess the price of gas at the pumps in 3 months. The only job where if you keep fooling a person you get the title as weatherman. The cleaning lady has to work harder.

Good. Two weeks of the same snow is too much. It’s all getting brown, icy and a pain to walk with.

Because the general public doesn't care about weather so they see it as no need. People check there iPhone apps and move on with the day.

Yet if the forecast is wrong or no warnings at all it can have people's lives affected? Remember the June heat dome that killed 700 people? Or is that just a "hobby". Sounds like a pretty important "hobby " to me don't you think?

This is quite honestly one of the most ridiculous takes I have seen on here.

7 years of post secondary studies for a job that has many requirements and requires non stop focus and attention to detail. It's not just reviewing global models like we do here.

A hobby. Like w101 said, lives are on the line. And livelihoods.

Also how do you manage to throw in an insult on the "cleaning lady" in all this mess?
