Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
By 4:00 PM yesterday, there was a clear model consensus in favour of far snowier solutions after the 00Z Euro suddenly trended higher. At that point, EC should have upped their estimated totals. Even if they would have gone with 15–25 cm (which seemed reasonable at the time) it would have been a far less serious bust. At least there would have been a hint of the likelihood of deep accumulations.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
I'm out shovelling off a foot of snow when I look down the road and see my neighbor attempting to clear off his driveway. He's 75 and not in the greatest of health. And then it dawns on me - why is he even here? He should be down in Arizona with his wife...they go down there for five months every winter. Another neighbor comes by on a quad with a snow plow on the front of it. I hear him ask if he needs help. He says sure and neighbor 2 proceeds to clear a path in front of his car so he can get out. When that's done, we push his car until he gets it on the road and he takes off. Five minutes later he walks back...his van, likely with summer tires on it, has gotten stuck.
So now for the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey would say (I'm showing my age here!) Turns out, he has come back for a week from Arizona to go to a specialist appointment that has been booked for many months. He didn't think to check on the weather here before they took off. Sort of a happy ending though. Neighbor 2 offers to drive him to his appointment. He goes home and gets his truck and they should get there in time. He was so worried that he was going to go to the bottom of the queue if he didn't get there today.
In for a break, still have the other half of the driveway to shovel!

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
Isn't a winter storm warning when there is a mix of conditions? Rain, freezing rain and snow?
Why not try cycling to work, grocery store, anywhere!

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
"When severe and potentially dangerous winter weather conditions are expected, including:
A major snowfall (25 cm or more within a 24 hour period); and
A significant snowfall (snowfall warning criteria amounts) combined with other cold weather precipitation types such as: freezing rain, strong winds, blowing snow and/or extreme cold.
Blizzard conditions may be part of an intense winter storm, in which case a blizzard warning is issued instead of a winter storm warning."

Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
Based on forecasted temps (Friday/Sat) I'm guessing there's going to be either zr or even perhaps more likely sleet conditions in the central valley at some point during the switchover... Too bad the cold can't last until after Christmas
