Re: December 2022 Forecasts And Discussions
Let's take a stab at this:
Hopefully tonight will set some cold record lows for you guys. I really want to see how cold it can get under clear skies and the mass amounts of snow cover. Hard to get this type of situation.
Da snow is a comin'
After a clear night, clouds will roll in tomorrow morning to afternoon. Hopefully locking in the cold air. Thursday evening will see flurries develop and as we head into the later night, periods of heavy snow will begin. Snow should continue into the afternoon on Friday. Most areas should see around 20cm.
Now the difficult part. Models suggest a warmup. Will it happen? Yes, but how much and how strong? The cold air is really entrenched in lower BC out over Vancouver Island. There is a possibility of this staying snow for longer than expected, therefore delivering deeper accumulations. It may stay snow over higher elevations and inland as the air mixes making a possibility of seeing up to 30 to 40cm.
But,
If it changes over to freezing rain, which nobody wants to see, obviously accumulations will be lower. There is a significant chance of an ice storm especially inland and into the valley. Be ready. The cold air is really deep and the ground is frozen so it WILL freeze. Possibly up to 2cm thick. I really hope it remains snow.
The other thing we can hope for is a model failure and whatever happens isn't what is showing. So, less freezing rain. Less warmup, and less heavy rain. Perhaps the rain will get shredded over Vancouver Island for once in your favour.
It's going to be a big mess come Sunday. But, enjoy another snow storm with blizzard like conditions in the fraser valley.
It seems like many areas over performed on Tuesdays storm which was fantastic. I saw depths of 20 to 40+cm depending where you live. By this weekend some areas i n the actual metro area could have up to 60cm on the ground. That is 30cm from recently, with a possible new 30cm on top. FANTASTIC!

Hello!

I love the snow and this forum is my winter entertainment. Figure after 5 plus years, it’s time to actually join in on the fun (and maybe learn something as well).
