Get Ready!
Snow should start falling shortly as moisture starts pushing inland. Flurries will turn to periods of heavy snow this evening and over night. Wild amounts of accumulations could be seen for this time of year and this could certainly be record breaking if the models are correct or especially if it decides to over-perform. For the general metro area we could see anywhere from 15CM along the coast to 30CM inland and up to 35CM at higher elevations and 40CM along the mountains. The Valley should see about 25CM. Outflow has diminished so less blowing snow this time will help produce accumulating snow in the Valley.
I see some of you worried this storm may bust. You need to keep one thing in mind. This is not a typical pineapple express pumping rain right from Hawaii type of system. This is sliding down from the NW dragging cool air with it so the upper levels are cool, and not warm. So there is a major difference with this storm compared to the typical arctic/moisture clash events we see on the coast. Wetbulb will bring the temps back down from any gains we had today as dew points are still quite low across the region.
Interestingly enough, it looks like it may remain snow all day Sunday as flurries, and Monday as well after a slight warmup, and then Monday night may bring another dump of snow. Mid week another surprise is forming, and then another, oh myvery interesting week upcoming! Snow lovers should be excited! Some events will be close calls, but keep an eye on the models.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Sorry..but lots of the forecasted snowfall totals is going to melt on impact now. Cut them in half prolly is more accurate. Ground is now too warm. Did the models factor in the warmer temps/ground and initial melting in the totals?

Let's be nice here. Nobody should be criticized for what they post. I was just giving him my thoughts and why I think this event will verify despite the current temperatures.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Sat Feb 25, 2023 1:27 pm Just watch his area get "pumbled" and by tomorrow morning he'll be bragging about his neighbourhood but also about how this doesn't compare to the Similkameeeeeenz

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Given how models have been trending, it is simply realism.
Sort of hard to believe we’re about to get those amounts given climo, but a) the models have been VERY consistent that we will, and b) it has happened before (as recently as last December, in fact). In forecasting, one must put one’s emotions aside and listen to the science.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
You're right but there's a limit to how nice I can be...man is unreasonably negative every time right before a storm then after the goods are delivered does a full 180. I don't usually say much but this morning my nerves are grated.
I stand by my one sarcastic remark for the day.

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Actually the ground is not too warm. Only the absolute surface is slightly warm due to slight radiant warming from the thin cloud cover still present over most of the area. The ground is actually frozen at least 5CM deep below the surface. As soon as the snow starts to fall and the cooling from the snow on the surface begins, sticking will occur FAST!

Re: February 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
This is unequivocally false. It will not take long for the snow to accumulate. We’ve been in the freezer for over 3 days. The ground doesn’t just magically unfreeze over a couple of hours. Stop trying to rile people up. Relax and enjoy the snow.
