Oh I did okay then. I only cleared my measuring area twice last night.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:45 am The standard seems to be once every 6 hours. So Typer's total is definitely high, and mine is low. I could/should have cleared my board at midnight. Oh well.

It depends what we're measuring. Depth or total. Imo lack of depth can really obscure the "total" but then again calling it 30 cm when peak depth is 20 seems off too.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:45 am The standard seems to be once every 6 hours. If you're purely measuring total snow I agree with clearing the board a lot to nullify the compaction factor.

Yep, exactly my point. Total and depth are two completely different things.PortKells wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:50 am It depends what we're measuring. Depth or total. Imo lack of depth can really obscure the "total" but then again calling it 30 cm when peak depth is 20 seems off too.

Mentioning the latter, total depth here peaked at 21cm

Didn’t clear mine at all so I probably got somewhere in the 25 to 30 cm range if I had measured correctly.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:48 am Oh I did okay then. I only cleared my measuring area twice last night.
Evens things out from you besting me last December.
It's called clown range for a reason.

The NOAA standard is to clear the board every six hours, and I bet EC is similar.PortKells wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:50 am It depends what we're measuring. Depth or total. Imo lack of depth can really obscure the "total" but then again calling it 30 cm when peak depth is 20 seems off too.

https://madis-data.ncep.noaa.gov/snow_measurements.htmlIf your daily schedule permits, you may wish to make a snowfall observation every 6-hours, beginning with your regularly scheduled time of observation. This is the procedure followed by National Weather Service Forecast Offices. Follow the same rules for a once-a-day observation, but the snow accumulation reported will be the greatest for the previous six hours instead of 24 hours. If you take your observations at this frequency, make sure that you clear your snowboard (or other measuring surface) no more than once every 6 hours. your report. Never sum more than four, six-hourly observations to determine your 24-hour snowfall total. If you use more than four observations, it would falsely increase snowfall totals. [emhasis added]

Last night at 1 am I measured 22 cm. no clearing boards. It snowed quite a bit after that. I would assume close to 30 cm fell here as well.

Guess I'll start clearing every 6 hours from now on to match the official standards.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Sun Feb 26, 2023 9:57 am The NOAA standard is to clear the board every six hours, and I bet EC is similar.

Literally 5cm here at my place in lower North Van lol....30cm a 5 min drive up the hill...so excited to
to Horseshoe bay...where I measured 22cm this morning.
With the proximity to the mountains coupled with the fact that bust's here nearly every system unless it's a full blown arctic outbreak, this may be the most disappointing place to live if you like snow in the entire LM
