Re: March 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
I see others have posted these, so for the record...the first is the north facing front yard, which seems be one of the last places on the block sometimes with snow still.

Re: March 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
In regards to pics I just posted, our front and back yards get relatively the same shading, so fill/soil composition must play a part.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Sun Mar 05, 2023 6:57 am Any thoughts on if ground make up makes a difference.

Pretty similar here as well. Sun facing parts are mostly gone now but still lots of piles and settled areas with not much sun have a bit of cover.

Re: March 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
Something a bit historical I found interesting is that during the big Snows of Christmas 2008 we received about double the snowpack that my dad's house received at 150 M elevation in Lynn Valley North Vancouver.
But all our snow was gone by the end of February whereas his snow was still sticking significantly in the forested areas well into April maybe even the beginning of May.
In the city if you have a tree the snow under the tree is gone almost instantaneously when it's mild, but I guess having a fully forested area affects the snowpack in a significantly different way, perhaps simply by trapping the cold air.

Were the covid restrictions just lifted? Saw more people today at white rock beach than during the summer . People had fun looking for parking.

Re: March 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
In regards to John's theory perhaps yes but every location in the lower mainland is receiving the same amount of sun angles.
But if you just take into account shaded areas in the central valley snow cover is pretty much gone but Hound the dog master has several centimeters in his yard.
I guess you could start accounting for UHI closeness to next house etc. it must be several factors at play soil, closeness to next house etc.

Re: March 2023 Forecasts And Discussions
That's decent Walt a week later wow,
need a contest for last snow pile standing.
I just find it interesting most of us recieved the same amount of snow.
Just the duration some areas hang on intrigues me
and this past week the weather was pretty much the same from Vancouver to the central valley to study this a bit.
