Both December 2009 and January 2011 had separate massive snowstorm forecasts which turned out to be epic failures at the last minute.

December 09 didn't we get a little snow followed by some light freezing rain Trip? we were in Maple Ridge at the time.

Sunny with gusty winds all across the southern prairies (Medicine Hat to Regina) today with high temps hovering between 29c and 32c. With the exception of the Cypress Hills, the Lethbridge to Moose Jaw corridor -- SE Alberta and SW Saskatchewan -- is just about as dry as the valleys of the Thompson-Okanagan.

Absolutely stunning shots Trip slightly rolling hills no wonder in winter you don't want to get caught in a blizzard out there that Lake in Regina looks so refreshing awesome temps as well.

I remember that epic failure fondly. One of the all time greats for sure.

Snowfails happen in all climates, but in ones that don’t get much snow to start with, they really hurt, because there might well not be another good chance all season.

I guess it was a good winter to be in Portland. That surprise snowfall caused total chaos, because it hit right during the evening commute. I had gone into the mountains that day with friends, and was not surprised when it started snowing (because I was in the mountains). We decided to head back before the roads got too bad, and kept waiting for the snow to change to rain as we lost elevation, and it simply never did. Eventually we were in the Portland suburbs and it was still snowy. Thankfully, we were headed into town, so the traffic was only truly hideous going the other way.

El Neeto had a field day with the model meltdown l think it was events like that, that possibly turned Abby Sr. to more of a spectator than a contributor l don't blame him our climate can wreck your mood.

Sounds like the storm track went way south of where it was modelled? Interesting, usually it busts the other way going further north.

That's perhaps due to it did snow at least were we coming out of an Arctic blast perhaps? unlike Jan 2011 where we were supposed to go into an event.
We've had several snow busts over the years after an Arctic blast
I guess l categorize them separately.

If last year's December snowfall hadn't been so insane, the overrunning bust a few days later on I believe the 22nd would be very memorable. I was expecting at least 25 cm, got probably 5 snizzles.

Since we're on the topic of snow, I truly believe the lack of snow we receive on the West Coast makes it special for all of us.

I spent the last week in Ontario, and in those 7 days, I experienced more thunderstorms than I've witnessed in Vancouver in the past 15 years combined. The thunderstorms that came through would be considered something we would never see in Vancouver.

But guess what? I got pretty bored of them pretty quick. After a while, seeing 3 storms a day that last a hour each kinda took away from the magic. I still enjoyed them but not as much each passing day.

I feel like if I grew up in a snowy climate I wouldn't appreciate the beauty as much.

We're only a couple of weeks away from being inundated with holiday themed items like Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas. I'm looking forward to it (not Halloween) but I will be enjoying the nice weather at the same time!

Great points. It’s why the pnw weather forum activity absolutely dwarfs the mid west and eastern forums.

Wow once again spectacular amazing scenery Trip when your out on these road adventures you don't want to come home eventually you do but you think man l could just stay here and enjoy these amazing spots.
