This forum has lost its way and that is unfortunate. We used to have friendly banter in this thread and then discuss models, boring or not. Now, it is permeated with heavy discussions under the guise of "weather." We used to leave those topics in the appropriate threads, no matter how quiet this thread was. It really is too bad because we've already lost a couple of valuable posters because of it. And they will be sorely missed this winter if they decide to stay on the sidelines.

Unfortunately, I think this was always kinda building and bubbling up behind the scenes for a while, and we have seen instances of it happening for the past few years, but this year, it blew up.

I hope we can all take a step back and try to remember that we all come here for the love of weather. There's no issue with healthy debate whatsoever, but I feel like the plot has been lost. The intential trolling or gaslighting has been happening for so many years, I guess, it was bound to happen.

I know a couple certain members reached out to me personally about posting less, but hopefully, a snowy winter can change that.

This forum has always been a great hangout, and I hope we can all get back to that.

I believe climate change is becoming the biggest driver of our weather and it’s hard to call it a separate topic. But that opinion isn’t shared for better or for worse and it simply goes nowhere.

Sorry if I’ve contributed to people not participating, that is unfortunate and maybe if I shut up for a while those folks will check back in. But that won’t make the topic go away, it’s just going to smoulder as things get worse and worse, climate wise. You guys decide as mods what can be discussed, ill personally try my best to leave the topic alone and resist the bait that inevitably comes.

Personally I’ve found the debate to be at least Somewhat pleasant recently, after getting out of hand a while back. But I guess it’s inevitable tensions will rise again the next time there’s an extreme event.

Not your fault Kells it’s a subject that’s past the point of no return so l think it depresses a lot of folks don’t know what else to be said that hasn’t been said. :dunno:

I don't really have a problem with the climate change discussion as long as it doesn't begin to dominate the topic, but we've also seen a turn to some posts delving into some existential crisis. I feel like that stuff can be discussed elsewhere on the forum. Also, the personal shots between certain members is off putting. There is a line between friendly banter and offside, and I feel like that line has been crossed far too many times in the last little while. My two cents.

There has been 2 members that for years have been able to spout nonsense and nothing was done to stop them. If more had been done by the moderating team perhaps we wouldn't be in this situation. I can only recall one temporary ban and it was for someone who didn't even deserve it.

Blame can't be placed on the members alone

Mattman wrote: Sat Sep 09, 2023 8:11 pm Been waiting for this day for seven years. Waiting until we were done procreating and all the kids to be old enough so that it wasn't too much of a chore. It was their first time across the border. Our youngest was a little disappointed as she expected to see rivers of lava. But overall, they had a blast at Mt. Baker area today. Best time of year to go as there's no convective buildup shrouding any of the mountains.
Great area and I like it a little later when it turns all orange and red.
