Yes i always thot they shud separate these events. This would be a valley area temp sitch.
"Arctic" is when we really get one...very rare indeed these days. Arctic air with lows of -10c or less. Daytime highs of -2C or less.
"Modified" arctic is when it gets to Low -5 to -8 and highs ~ +2 or +3
"Downslope" warning shud be for these farts. Lows of +4C or +5C lol, highs of +6c to 8c. Or Similkameen fartflow hahaha
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++ 8-)

I’m hoping it doesn’t get to this but I’m curious as to what some of the really delayed opening dates are for the local ski hills.

Yes..looks like a horrible year. Worse than bommy rains. At least they get SOME snow in between the warm fronts. A cupla flurries evaporates

In November 2017 Cypress took 7 days to open from the first initial cold. We had snow Nov 2, right in the city. Cypress had about 15 cm and then made snow up to opening day and opened on the 10th. They turned on the snow guns yesterday so they could have an opening on December 2 by this logic.

Dew points (-12/-13C) tell us this is arctic air.

When Fort Nelson and areas north are sitting at -12H, -20L, that is hardly cold for this time of year. Where is my Arctic high from years ago?

Mmm, sorry Sir but it is not even modified Arctic air.

I'd reserve calling any air mass here Arctic for the truly polar air masses like January 1950 that come straight down from the north like an unstoppable train. :whistley:

There's no reason at all why this winter can't turn into an awesome one. Not even December yet!
It always snows in December in the Kootenays

Yes, to think about it, you're right guys; this is continental air only.

About a January 1950 event, it will come back... one day. For sure.
