Thanks so much.SouthSardiswx wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 12:28 pm I'll be sad to know your not in the area Jr. Man, meeting you almost 4 years ago was a pleasure and watching your weather skills develop on this forum has been awesome to see. it'll be difficult to find another Wpro 2.0 for our area.
In the meantime back to work my friend you still got work to bring us some winter this year.![]()
It was awesome meeting you too. I still love the station you sold me.
Don’t worry, I’ll still be active on this forum when I move and continue to post updates for the weather here too.
This weather community will always be important to me.

Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
I hope it goes well for you(at the expense of us I suppose) but I just want to caution you that the disappearance of winter is happening everywhere. The east is in a major winter slump the last few years. The last real winter blast they've had, well maybe Jan 2021 but more like Dec 2017 was the last real vintage cold snap. So maybe they are due and you can bring them some luck. But my bigger point is that winter is a dying breed across the globe, aside from relatively small areas where the shrinking polar vortex gets squeezed into. Fortunately last year that was us, and the year before as well.AbbyJr wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2023 8:20 pm The 2024/25 winter may be my last one here before moving to Ottawa. To be honest, I'm really excited about the weather in Ottawa. Much better than here. Heatwaves and humid with thunderstorms in the summer and very cold and snowy in the winter. But don't worry, I'll still be on here regularly posting updates on the feetz of snow in my backyard.![]()
I'd love to talk about why these things are happening but that might get me a ban so I'll simply conclude by saying merry christmas.

The East Again this year isn't getting anything.. Yes, I know El Nino, but we all know it's global warming.PortKells wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 3:12 pm I hope it goes well for you(at the expense of us I suppose) but I just want to caution you that the disappearance of winter is happening everywhere. This isn't the A.F. Kells we say it as it is no fake news here like down south. No sugar coating on this forum l can see writing on the wall, l've lived here all my life sure we'd have the odd mild winter but not a summer like drought albiet 76/77 was an anomaly but this is looking horrible year after year except the last 2 years.PortKells wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 3:12 pm I hope it goes well for you(at the expense of us I suppose) but I just want to caution you that the disappearance of winter is happening everywhere. I doubt it. The only thing that was/would be getting people banned is derailing threads with name calling, but again I try my best not to need to ban unless I have to threaten the ban hammer. You could open up a new thread if you wish. Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
I'm glad we allow free speech on this forum. I would not want anyone banned for sharing their opinion, even if I firmly disagreed with it.stuffradio wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 8:15 pm I doubt it. What warrants a ban is when an individual is repeatedly rude and disrespectful towards other members despite warnings from the moderators and site admin. I would also add that repeated attempts to provoke another member to an uncivil argument would warrant a warning and a ban if the person fails to adhere to the warnings. So it's quite simple. Be respectful and we will respect your opinions even if we agree to disagree.
Let's keep this a fun and happy weather community.

Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah people will say it's a west coast thing/place where I live thing and we never get winter HERE anymore. It's a coping mechanism and I get it. The reality is tough to face.Weather101 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 3:56 pm The East Again this year isn't getting anything.. Yes, I know El Nino, but we all know it's global warming.

Everyone saysmove. But eventually, it won't even matter ( starting not to matter now). You can't beat Mother Nature.
It reminds me of my something my mom told me a couple years back on a visit to our cabin on the sunshine coast, which is on the beach. i paraphrase but basically she said "yeah the beach is lifeless now, it used to be just teeming with life. I guess these things go in cycles!" Yes, cycles. Everything becomes lifeless randomly and then reappears a decade later for funzies. Ecology and science be damned.
But on climate and specifically lack of snow, I've combed the internet and read these kinds of comments from people everywhere. Midwest, east coast, Scandinavia, Alaska, and on and on and on. It's always something like "its so strange! what is happening to the weather in my area?"
The thing is we've been ridiculously fortunate since 2016 in the context of our new and quickly warming climate. I have made sure to soak in every last second of snow and snow cover since then, knowing that another and even longer and more hideous stretch of snowlessness could be right around the corner. I am dumbfounded when I read how much things have sucked when in reality we've been served more than our share in comparison to most.

Re: December 2023 Forecasts and Discussions
I was told by a different mod that the climate alarmists were causing all the problems (which wasn't even remotely true but anyways) and I took a long break. I suspect if I post from the heart it will incite more annoying arguments and I will have to ban myself again or get banned.stuffradio wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 8:15 pm I doubt it. However I am no longer able to enjoy discuss the local weather without actually addressing the reality of what's driving it. For me It's like talking to another adult about Christmas without being able to admit that Santa Clause is a made up character.

PK, I am sorry you feel that way. I’m not sure if I am the mod you are talking about, but below is what I had said to you at the time. I don’t see anything about you causing all of the problems.PortKells wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 10:36 pm I was told by a different mod that the climate alarmists were causing all the problems (which wasn't even remotely true but anyways) and I took a long break. This forum has lost its way and that is unfortunate. We used to have friendly banter in this thread and then discuss models, boring or not. Now, it is permeated with heavy discussions under the guise of "weather." We used to leave those topics in the appropriate threads, no matter how quiet this thread was. It really is too bad because we've already lost a couple of valuable posters because of it. And they will be sorely missed this winter if they decide to stay on the sidelines.
I don't really have a problem with the climate change discussion as long as it doesn't begin to dominate the topic, but we've also seen a turn to some posts delving into some existential crisis. I feel like that stuff can be discussed elsewhere on the forum. Also, the personal shots between certain members is off putting. There is a line between friendly banter and offside, and I feel like that line has been crossed far too many times in the last little while. My two cents.
