Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Theme seems to be fairly low snow levels as of Sunday.
Looks to me like one of those setups where precip intensity, time of day, elevation and luck will all play a roll in who sees some wet flakes.
Subject to change of course as we are almost a week out.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
No chance we break the cold January curse unless we get a prolonged (2 weeks+) bout of modified arctic air or a shorter intense cold snap.PortKells wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 10:27 am I think a brush of modified arctic air could still be possible but a full on blast seems highly unlikely in these background conditions and even going by what the models have been saying. Having some water in the resevoirs next summer might be the best that comes out of this and that is no small thing.
Having said all that, breaking the January curse would be pretty fun so we might as well keep the hopes up for now. I feel like I'm in Nito's corner on this one and that just feels...dirty.

Re: January 2024 Forecasts and Discussions
Given my criteria is solely from a monthly average perspective, any way we get there counts. Incidentally, a long period of fake cold with deep snowcover is exactly how our last cold January in 1993 played out. We did see an arctic blast early on in the month though.
