Finally back home in the  belt.

Roads in Burnaby and New West were a ****show. No salt to be seen. Flash freeze with the arctic front quickly followed by that heavy burst of snow created a layer of ice underneath with snow on top. Traffic was mostly at a standstill with cars and busses spinning out in some spots. Had periods of moderate-heavy snow near Burnaby Lake for about two hours, from roughly 2:00 till 4:00.

On the flip side, roads are a breeze in Coquitlam and have been salted. ~1.25-1.5cm here. I'd estimate about double that amount in Burnaby and New West but the roads were just terrible.

If 80% of the people listen to Nito's narrative "why people need winter tires" that's we get. There's a reason they are called winter tires. Oh "in Vancouver does not snow, why do I need to spend the money for".

Only 1.5cm? The bananas strike again. 4+cm up the hill from you and temperature wasn't an issue this time. Topography?

Classic arctic front!

Very nice to see that dramatic temp drop during the day; shows how impressive this incoming airmass is.

Going off memory, think we had a Tmax right around -10c on Dec 27, 2021? This was IMBY though, not at YVR. Plus, it was under mostly cloudy skies with fairly deep snowcover.

Double whammy this time:
  • First sticking snowfall of the season, and
  • Came in during business hours on a weekday, catching people at the office.
It’s going to be like the last double whammy (Nov 2022): some people will not get home until after midnight.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Only down to -2 here. This is only down from +2.9 this morning. We've had more impressive drops. This might be one of the few times that arctic air misses us completely

Witnessing the stupid driving on McBride has left me speechless. Overtaking on the shoulder or going full speed into a right/left turn will mess you up.

Would be fun to see when the last time tmax was -9ish during an El Nino year.
