Need 4" to be safe to walk on. You could get by with a bit less but that's more risky.

Municipalities will not take off the "danger" signs these days until the ice is at least 6" thick.

Possible deformation band approaching from the south with a continental cold front coming in from the north. Huge potential
Would be epic if we could pull this off. Would be a major region wide snowstorm. Unfortunately, there's always January 2011. :silent:

Did January 2011 fall apart 48hrs or 72hrs out?

Of course they do. Will be some epic meltdowns if this doesn’t hit western Washington.

I couldn't point to any specific example of that setup happening. Looks good though.

A renewed shot of modified arctic air into the interior at the same time a system approaches from the SW. Timing is key for the difference between rain, snow, or more dry weather. At this point I'd rather see the models trend towards more suppression (i.e. the arctic air pushes south quicker than the undercutting system). Might seem like a drier outcome but would be colder. Otherwise it could be a quick transition from flurries to ZR and mild rain.

It fell apart on the gfs in the 48-72hr range. I don’t recall the euro ever showing the epic solutions that the gfs was pumping out.

If I recall correctly...one of our Dec 2008 systems phased with an arctic front.

December 25? That's is what I thought. Everyone thought we will warm up. Then finally an other system rolled in the 27 if I am correct, started with snow and then finally transition to rain.

2008 was wild, there were so many snowstorms in a row. The two biggies were on the 21st/22nd, then the 24th, so these two were probably the ones which phased together. The 26th/27th one was the one that wound up finally turning to rain. The cold then somehow made another comeback for several more marginal snowfalls in the first week of January.
