Yeah we did. The last week of Dec wasn't too bad. The valley also had a fairly significant ice storm to close out the month.

As we flipped the calendar into January however...we didn't see much other than lots of mild rain.

El Nito has already spoken. Forget about the ski season this year. Historic cold for the east.

There are a million reasons to be positive (its Dec 2) but I dont think hanging our hopes on an epic January is one. Was it last January or jan 2017 that was hyped up for months and everything ended up being east based with all the bomb cyclones and noreasters? I remember the disappointment here. I just hope we can get a half decent ski season and a snow event. Anything else is gravy. I think we can all agree this splitty ridginess is a little disappointing so far based on how the previous few months have played out with troughs hitting us fairly consistently since about February.

End of December either just before or after Christmas we see a nice GOA block and cold trough over BC is my guess. Cold outflow and perhaps a couple sliders. This perhaps could continue into early January before we go back to a stormy mild pattern. Thats my prediction but no guarantees.

You can see signs of a historic arctic blast taking shape....for the Eastern half of the country. SSW event for 2nd half of the month with a strong +PNA signal as well.

Complete write off for the ski-season shaping up here. Wouldn't bother looking at the models the next 2 weeks.

Your predictions are well in line with mine. People writing off this winter already are just anxiously worried and trying not to get their hopes up. Its way to early to write this season off yet.
