Everyone outside sledding and shovelling? Any fun snow maps and timing for tomorrow? I know it will be brief.

Looks good for some clearing tonight, we can get nice and cold and the snow will get all glisteny.

Tomorrow looks like mostly an Island special. Maybe a few slushy cm here in the LM.

1993 mean was -0.4c. This month so far is -0.2c and the warm up is coming. I suppose I need to account for El Nino's, especially strong ones and climate change in my measurement of curse breaking.

Graph is mean temperature below 0c for the month in Agassiz.
Criteria for a cold month is definitely an average near or below 0c. 1993 was the last cold January.

In terms of snowfall, it's more up in the air. Same with individual cold snaps. If that's the criteria for some for ending the January curse then it's totally understandable.

But the unfortunate fact still remains that our last cold January was over 30 years ago, and that streak doesn't look to be ending this year.

Wow, it beat December 24th, 2008 totals at YVR. That's a huge accomplishment.

There are a few other snowfalls over the period of record that don't look as "impressive" due to the daily cutoff. Certainly was the case with the February 1990 snowstorm which dropped a widespread 30-50cm across Metro Vancouver.

Again like l mentioned Tsnowfall, this event we will talk about in the future as one of the great Arctic blasts and snowfalls for a strong El Nino winter wow!

Warm front dissipates over the LM and moderates the airmass. Most of us will be above 0C when the main moisture arrives by late evening which should be a brief slushing before we see plain old rain. Friday actually looks mild with some breaks in the sky.

No real heavy rains in the forecast so the slush could stay with us for another week.
