The interest usually wanes by then actually mid Jan on around these parts is the beginning of the end of winter. :x Pineapples start blooming. 😋 mosquitoes 🦟 start appearing
Knuckles out of the playoffs by then.

We were due for a snowless NDJ period. Better luck in 2025-26.
Merry Christmas!
Not a fan of the shift on this EPS run. A lot more westerly momentum at the critical latitudes. Not a pattern that would retrograde easily or quickly.

End result looks like a reincarnation of 1980/81. Same problems all winter rolled forward into at least mid-January.

Here comes our lump of coal :x l expect January to just be boring but by the end of January higher sun angles small signs of spring very few frosty mornings, such a disappointing result after all the hype l'm glad l never jumped on board.
Even the east isn't really seeing a huge snowy cold spell just moderate but at least they've had some winter oh well next winter l guess.

Looks like it's snowing on Hwy 4 between Port Alberni and Tofino.

Calm winds here in Mission. The valley is not included in the rain and wind warnings. Tomorrow looks a lot stormier though.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Maybe on the good news front we can finally ditch analogues and seasonal forecasts for good?

Most of us take no stock in long-range forecasting unless it's showing an continuation of the Aleutian Low and +PNA ridge.

Odds are favorable for a colder than normal February due to the very weak -ENSO state but the later than usual plunge could translate into a colder spring instead.

Analogues are 100% useless and should forever stop being used.

2005-06 and 1966-67 were among the top analogues for this winter, and they have been bang on for our region so far.
