Looks like the models want to introduce another mild and wet pattern at the end of Jan again with the strong aleutian low taking hold.

Those long-range CFS and Euro weeklies are total garbage.

When was the last time YVR recorded no more than a trace of snow for an entire winter?
It's called clown range for a reason.

2002-2003 and 2014-2015 were completely snowless during the winter (but had snow in the fall).

2015-2016 saw us have a trace (1cm) which was really wet slush mixed with hail).

All 3 were El Nino winters.

I am betting we finally see the Pacific calm down by mid-late Feb into March which may spoil any chance of a snowless winter. Extreme cold appears to be out of the cards though.

By “winter” I meant cold season, so none of those had a trace or less. (Even 1 cm of slush is more than a trace.)

Just playing the odds, then, odds are we do see something in the way of sticking snow.

Even during the really bad stretch (2014-15 and 2015-16) YVR recorded measurable snowfall. Late November 2014 and early January 2016.

There was also couple traces mixed in during April 2015 and December 2015 if I recall correctly.

Extreme cold has always been rare here apart from the 50's and 60's. But I do think there is still a good chance for a colder period with some snow even if we have to wait until February. Perhaps a 2014 style setup? We'll have to see but I'd be surprised if this winter busts entirely.

Just as quickly as the models can fall apart they can also flip back to eye candy. Model consistency has been lacking and the earliest potential pattern change is still well over 200hrs out. Things don't look promising as of now but winter isn't over yet either. Time will tell. We'll see. :silent:
