No doubt some of the snow that could fall earlier on Saturday will struggle to stick. But for what it's worth, the Euro snow depth map looks solid. Much more believable than the 40cm shown on the other map. I'm still somewhat skeptical given the GEM shows much less snowfall.Monty wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 12:00 pm Maybe it’ll work out. I’m just curious how much of that might fall as non accumulating snow before the colder air arrives. Looks like the modified arctic air will arrive into the Fraser valley sometime Sunday, but the timing is still up in the air. And there are some signs of convergence along the outflow boundary later Sunday but to have any confidence in amounts with that at this range is impossible.

Terrain bleed and mixing need to be accounted for.
You can't just post snowfall maps and assume that's what actually will be on the ground.

To clarify, I never assumed that all of the snow shown on the maps I posted would actually be on the ground. But it gives us a general idea.

Re: January 2025 Forecasts And Discussions
I have seen upper level lows kick up a feature that drops 40cm of snow. I have also seen instances where you never see any organized features and you see very scattered snow showers that accumulate and immediately melt due to diurnal heating.
No model will get this right but I tend to think the amounts are overly exaggerated.

Look, higher amounts could happen for some localized areas that get lucky. On the flip side, some areas could get whiffed.
But most realistic outcome is probably more in line with snow depth maps.

To say lowland areas Will get next to nothing or that the maps represent terrain bleed is strange.
Terrain bleed is a smoothed over look where you can clearly see the shape of the mountains bleed halfway into the city

Appears that the site is struggling now than we have more than 5 people on it.
