HughCorne wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 6:24 pm Can someone explain what differentiates Kuchera from 10:1?
It’s the snow:water ratio. 10:1 is basically what it says it is. The Kuchera ratio takes into account the temperature, specifically the maximum temperature in the lowest 500 mbar of the air column. It accounts for how wet, gloppy snow has a lower ratio than cold, dry, powder snow.

Exact formula here: https://weathermadness.com/2019/01/18/k ... king-best/
It's called clown range for a reason.

Wider view you can see there's 2 systems riding the Arctic boundary 2nd one is tomorrows. Once the system west of Kamloops passes it should drag the Arctic fluff through Kamloops. It almost looks like Arctic front will be coming in from the NNW as well.

12km is pretty much useless at this range. What does the 3km look like?

Edit: Never mind, I see you posted it above.

The early GFS runs that began picking up the cold snap had indicated the arctic front would move through this evening. But those were the runs from 5-10 days ago. Seeing as the timing has only been pushed back by less than one day since then is pretty remarkable given how volatile the models can be in that range.
