Weather101 wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2025 8:37 am The snow belts in Ontario have been receiving crazy amounts of snow all winter. Highway shutdowns and a state of emergency.

But what you said is very true; the traffic in Toronto is the most painful thing. I'm not sure if you have ever been, but you would want to scream. You can be stuck downtown for an hour on a five-minute commute. So, if this were a weekday, Toronto would be shut down.

Don't get me wrong, the traffic is still bad on weekends, but unlike Vancouver, If they say 10+ cm of snow and it's a weekend, people stay home. It looks like Lake Enchantment off Lake Ontario, so downtown could see 20 cm.
True, many areas on the SE sides of the lakes have gotten massive snowfalls this winter, which will always cause problems. I didn't know about the state of emergency though, that is pretty crazy. :wtf:

Toronto on the other hand, always struggles with any 10cm+ snowfall. It's always funny hearing them make fun of Vancouver when their city essentially ends up in the same boat during a significant snowfall. It is slightly better, but they still don't tend to deal with it very well.

Out of all major cities in Canada, I'd say Quebec City, Montreal, and Winnipeg tend to handle large snowfalls the best. Vancouver and Toronto are both bottom of the list for sure.

Nice view from a couple days ago of the frozen Fraser River between Williams Lake and Soda Creek.

A snow squall dropped 150 cm of snow on a town. It was crazy.!

The thing about Toronto is, yes, it will be cold for two months straight in the winter, and sometimes brutally cold with the windchill, this winter especially. But they don't see as much snow as people think in the GTA. It has been very difficult the past five years to get a snowfall event over 5 cm. Alberta clippers are too dry and fast; Colorado lows have been going south, or it has been just a tad too warm due to south winds. It has been constantly cloudy with flurries, but they don't amount to much.
GTA has been snake-bitten until today.

Snow gets old real fast in those snowbelts. You feel imminent dread when you see clouds moving in during a cold day.

I still have PTSD from my brief years out there.

Certainly looks like we are done with the snow based on the trends. This mornings runs supress the southern stream until we see the warm up.

Your allowed M1 somehow nothing east of Abby is allowed l guess just the flow into the valley is just not lining up. After living here since 2018 it seems a SW flow is a money maker for here.

I do remember they did strike gold and got that massive historic snowstorm in mid Jan 2022. Completely crippled the city for a few days with storm totals in the 30-50cm range.

Having spent some time in Toronto during my life, I always figured that was why it was settled. It shocked me how quickly snow could disappear in the winter, as compared with most surrounding areas.

I was actually surprised to see them, especially since our temp is rapidly approaching positive territory

Northwesterly circulation on the departing low west of western Washington created those flurries once the low moves inland off shore flow returns followed by slow leakage of Arctic fluff no big push this time only slow cooling as per Typo & Chris Doyles explanation.

He instigates and continues to. I just don't chime in usually because I don't like to get involved, but in this case I'm not directly getting involved just letting you see what I see.
The problem is, nothing is ever done or said to Hawk. It is just brushed aside, then it happens a week later. It's a never-ending cycle. I highly doubt anything will be done this time, and by next week, more names will be called..
