We all know we didn't get summer last year. No heat in the mid to upper 20s or low 30s at all!

It was nice not having any major heatwave at all. 26 to 29c maxes are perfect. That major heatwave from a few years ago can stay south of us forever

A "normal" summer doesn't mean we didn't get summer. We are just so used to huge heat waves that normal doesn't feel like summer. A lot of the time the temperature was literally at our normal daily high for the time of year. So instead of 33°C, it was at 23°C- 25c.

Also, didn't YVR hit 26°C and 28°C in July and August? Lol, that's summer weather.

We all know this summer will have one week of clouds with two drops of rain and it'll henceforth be permanently known as the #yearwithoutsummer, despite having 7 straight weeks of no precipitation and multiple heatwaves that only get to 35 in the valley.

I've come to realize that for many, if it's not your own house burning down or floating away, you may as well be watching a movie about it. It's a thing that's only real to people if it's at their doorstep. And even when it does happen, you can quickly blame the government for not protecting you and rebuilding your property fast enough. Building wood homes in tinder dry forests was never the problem.

The smoke waves we seem to have moved the goalposts on. We can still point to some random summer in the 60's that got bad. Or the 1800's when settlers were lighting fire to forests to create farmland. Climate change (Sorry if I'm not allowed to say that here) is still but a far off fiction that will affect future generations if we don't cut emissions 10% by 2180 by driving luxury EVs and recycling.

Surviving the day to day grind of this era requires these kinds of coping mechanisms. If you don't have them, well you'll just be depressed, which does absolutely nothing for anyone, least of all yourself. Live life, burn oil and be happy in the moment.
