Heard somewhere Carney has business connections with Trump and Musk. Maybe that's also why Trump prefers liberals.

Re: Politics
If that's the case, would that mean that if the Liberals only manage a minority, they could not form a coalition with the NDP?stuffradio wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 11:05 pm I don't think they can go into the House of Commons but I could be wrong.

Of course they can. The voters elected them, official party status or not.stuffradio wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 11:05 pm I don't think they can go into the House of Commons but I could be wrong.
They will, however, lose certain privileges.

So the Liberals could still technically form a coalition with the NDP?Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Mon Apr 28, 2025 11:25 pm Of course they can. The voters elected them, official party status or not.

Re: Politics
They won't. First, why would the NDP do that, given what their past confidence and supply agreement just produced for them?
Second, actual coalitions (wherein, unlike in a confidence and supply agreement, the partner party gets cabinet posts) are very rare in Canada. Only way I see it happen is if there is a true national crisis (and if there is, the Conservatives are likely to be invited into the coalition as well, see for example the Conservative/Liberal/Labour coalition in the UK during World War II).
Carney will in all likelihood govern as a minority PM, stitching together confidence votes on an ad-hoc basis for as long as he can.

Re: Politics
Not many surprises tonight... the overall result and seat counts are basically what I predicted. Having said that, the CBC says there's still a very slim chance the Liberals reach a majority.
I am a bit surprised by just how poorly Jagmeet Singh did. I'm glad he finally got the message and stepped down -- long overdue.

Yeah, the CBC will always cheer for the liberals and it definitely helped some old people to continue to vote liberal I feel sorry to all the young people of Canada. They are the ones that lost but we must keep going.Abby_wx wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 12:14 am Not many surprises tonight... the overall result and seat counts are basically what I predicted. Re: Politics
Seeing has how the Bloc and particularly the NDP just got gored because their bases, when faced with having to choose between voting for what they wanted or voting against what they did not want, chose the latter, they should remember that. I.e. they should threaten to help bring down the government unless the Liberals pass electoral reform.

Re: Politics
I haven't looked into the details, but they are still calling it a possibility as of this morning. Like John suggested, there may be some bias/wishful thinking being employed here.

Re: Politics
I hope Mark Carney brings in change from the last 10 years. The funny thing is he campaigned on change... from the Liberals. Is he going to bring more poverty or is he going to bring prosperity? Will Canadians keep voting Liberals until something happens like the US annexing us?
