The energy behind Pierre Poilievre’s campaign – palpable at rallies that attracted thousands of attendees – created a certainty among some that the polling and projections predicting Monday’s outcome were simply wrong.
Some here were certain of it, too. Always seemed like wishful thinking to me.

I could imagine the polls being off somewhat. They are just educated guesses, after all. And they were off somewhat. Carney did not get the majority the preponderance of the polls were calling for. Some here speculated he might not, and although I did not chime in on it, I thought it a plausible speculation. Which is why, unlike with the “Polievere is going to win big and the polls are massively wrong” posts, I never took issue with those speculating the polls might be off somewhat.

Somewhat. That was plausible. The odds of them being massively wrong were always remote.

It's happened before... recently, too -- the 2013 BC Election, for example. Obviously that doesn't change the odds of them being massively wrong but there's always a chance.

My dad is 75, and has never voted Liberal in his life. But he not only voted Liberal this time, but enthusiastically. MANY of his fellow boomers were the same. He's never voted conservative either (he's more of the NDP persuasion, though has also voted Green and even Communist at one point).

The BIGGEST demographic shift toward the conservatives has been Chinese and Indo Canadians.

Immigrant communities are generally naturally quite conservative, but haven't always voted so.

This is very interesting. I wonder why? Seems a lot of boomers went liberal; I'm just curious about their thought process on why and why not.

Forrest Gump wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 7:50 pm I heard the boundaries changed some in Poilievre's riding, and a lot of new home construction, with many 1st and 2nd generation immigrants moving there, who tend to vote liberal. There was a recent story, and I've heard this before, that immigrants are told, not sure by who, that they should vote liberal. I can actually testify to this being true. I just found out recently from my step mother, that my father, who is no longer with us, in 1959 when came to Quebec, was also recommended to vote liberal. So it seems the immigration intimidation tactics is a long standing liberal tradition.
I don't know, man; this seems like a bit of a conspiracy. Sure, maybe people are saying "vote for this party," but in this day and age, with Google, people don't need to be told what and who to vote for. I get your saying that if you came to a new country you would vote for the government that accepted you, but in my line of work, I run into immigrants moving into Canada all the time, and they were supporting the Conservatives for the most part, in the conversations I've had with some of them prior to the election. Even the immigrants who just came here a few years ago were fed up with the Liberals, so unless there is proof of immigration intimidation, as you're mentioning, I will have to say it's a non-story.

This is why I've always stayed out of politics. All you can do is vote, and whichever party wins, there's nothing we can do about it once the country has spoken. We still need to wake up and work; life goes on. Too many people nowadays believe in conspiracies, which makes politics even more difficult to digest.

Pollievre's riding had 95 candidates on the ballot. I'm not sure if that contributed but we will see what happens.

There's rumours that a few of the NDP MP's might cross the floor in order to give the Liberals a majority government. I can't believe such a thing would even be allowed within the Canada Charter of Rights. How is it constitutional for an MP who ran for a party that lost be allowed to switch to another party following the election? I would be apposed to this even if it benefited the Conservatives. I don't think it should be allowed period.

Crossing the floor Jr. Man is rare but it has been done in the past and it's not illegal. :wtf: a member could cross for various reasons usually they are not happy with what their party is doing. This sounds more like some backroom deal if that's the case sounds more sneaky then anything to me. :shifty:

I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but Trump said the one who hated him more lost the election and Mark Carney is a nice gentleman. He said Mark Carney called him up and said "Let's make a deal".
