Great day yesterday for fighting wildfires in BC

There are currently 97 active wildfires across BC, 47 of which
are out of control, down 1 from Wednesday. Three fires are deemed of note, all located in
NE BC. Indeed, many of the out of control fires are in Northeast BC, though one near
Squamish, and four in the Southern Interior also remain in this category. Owing to rain that
began yesterday, the fire danger rating has become less extreme for a large part of BC,
with low to moderate covering broad regions. Large pockets of extreme remain over the
Cariboo and NE BC, but these have shrunk. Given continued rain in the forecast into
Sunday, further improvement is expected.

Anyone up for skiing this weekend on Vancouver Island?

For Father’s Day weekend, Mt. Washington, British Columbia, is hosting an event that should make the ears of skiers perk up.

On June 14 and June 15, 2025, the ski resort will offer a small terrain park with leftover winter snow atop the Eagle Chair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Winter season passholders can enjoy the snow for free. Tickets to the rail park otherwise cost $19. Two places to eat, the Eagle View Bistro and Eagle View BBQ, will be serving food and drinks.

If you’re still mourning the end of the ski season, you know what to do.

The record high in Fairbanks is 99f, so its surprising they haven't had a heat advisory before given the predicted temps will not threaten that record.

Yes l was going to say 80's is quite common up that way why they don't use the advisory system is rather surprising to me.

I'm not sure how it works in the US, but heat advisories seem to be a more recent development with a much lower threshold than heat warnings. Case in point, we just had a heat advisory for the Lower Mainland last weekend and temps only reached the low 30's for a single day in the warmest locations. Unless I am mistaken, EC didn't' start issuing heat advisories in the Lower Mainland until a few years ago.

I am camping this weekend at Rolley Lake. Looks pretty wet! Great weather for reducing forest fire danger in BC and Canada coming up.
