Was out at Rocky Point Park yesterday, took our eldest granddaughter there, enjoyed some sweet talk donuts, then went for walk but had to cut it short as it started raining and got a little soaked, got back to our lawn chairs and saw some distant lightning and heard a couple rumbles. Since we were sitting under a tree, we packed it in and walked over to the Boathouse for an early dinner. The edge of the storm was short lived and resumed our walk after dinner and enjoyed some rocky point ice cream. It's quite a nice spot out there in Port Moody.

Incidentally, if anyone plans on visiting the Boathouse at White Rock beach, you better hurry before they shut'er down at the end of the month. I think it's because the new lease is going up. With such a prime location can't see it staying vacant for too long, but who knows.

Sadly, Boathouse is not what it once used to be. That location is particularly bad. Unfortunate as it used to be a family favorite years back.

Rocky Point Ice Cream is good though!

Yeah, the prices are ridiculous, and no burgers on the menu, had to ask why no burgers...but they do make them , just not on the menu, lol, kinda sneaky. And their truffle fries suck, pales in comparison to other places, skimping on the truffle cheese and no special truffle sauce provided. Too bad, great location.

Is summer over? Heading to Sicamous in a cupla weeks for a wedding. Gonna be my longest trip in a while, will put my back to the test since being diagnosed with severe osteoarthritis in lower back 3 years ago. Been keeping the pain and stiffness in check by strengthening the glutes, core, and stretching.

For the 1st time since records began in 1937, Vancouver YVR has recorded 7 consecutive Tmin > 14°C in September [in fact, since Aug. 23!].

Theyre prolly shutting down cause lease rates are insane, and becuz the restaurant business is wayyyyy down the last few months. GL Landlord. Lots of commercial "FOR LEASE" signs popping up everywhere last 30-60 days :alert: :alert:
Looking forward to our first 3 day stretch of sun and 20c++ 8-)

Coquitlam79 wrote: Sat Sep 06, 2025 6:27 am I know it's easy to forget about because of sparse population and other fires that are getting all the media/social media attention (I'm looking at you Mine creek fire) but I'm not exaggerating when i say the WEST CHILCOTIN IS ON FIRE. This reminds me of 2017. Thank goodness it's September and seasonal climatology will ensure that this won't last too long. But having said that another week or two of this will still be disastrous. Anahim lake, Nimpo lake even Charlotte lake and much of the surrounding region has been evacuated.Tatla lake is going to be evacuated, basically anywhere west of Redstone could be in major trouble. You can't have 2.5 weeks of temperatures over 30 degrees in a region that's a tinderbox at the best of times, full of beetle kill and drought stressed trees and rarely sees that kind of sustained heat and dryness even in July and August and not expect this.
This map is for next Saturday! The fire danger remains extreme and the fire spread remains significantScreenshot_20250906_055802_Windy.jpg
Well 2 years ago in late September my parent's trapline cabins in the West Chilcotin were all razed by fire so it can still be quite active this time of year. The nearby ranch was very very fortunate that they only had their hay burn up and one cabin and a few outbuildings.

But yes, it's bad out there now too. My mom is on evacuation alert. Cooler weather is definitely helping today. I'm somewhat worried my mom will lose her place, but optimistic the weather will get wet before it gets to her place (fire's edge is close to 10km away).
