Hoping the good stuff waits for the 2nd half of December, but beggars can't be choosers as they say.

If there's any merit to the 1981-82 analogue below, then late December into mid January will be in play. :alert: :flakey: :chilly:

Today's Euro runs are a reminder that we need to take every model solution with a grain of salt in the clown range.  :14clown:

Here's today's 12Z Euro:
ecmwf-deterministic-wcan-mslp_anom-4309600.png

And here's tonight's 00Z run for the same timeframe:

Polar opposite solutions. Which one will verify? Will any of them verify? :dunno:

It's a long drive. Not as difficult when you have multiple drivers and take 4 days to get home. Utah is not arid or semi arid. I know this because I've been there twice and it rained and snowed both times. Obviously it rains there more than it does in Vancouver. 😆

It's so crazy, it was pounding rain on us driving northwest on i84 toward Idaho. Literally the second we crested Rattlesnake Summit, changing from the Great Salt Lake drainage basin to the Snake River basin, the rain stopped and it was dry! Talk about rain shadow effect! The storm was obviously moving straight north or even northwest a little.

Anyway, in southern Utah, it was +1 and snowing on us.

At lower elevation, it was 7 degrees and raining but wow, amazing scenery!

Thinking we will predominantly see an East based cold setup next month now. There's no real substantial blocking out in the pacific to facilitate any meaningful cold West of the Rocky's. Cold is building in the Yukon which will probably dump into the Midwest and progress eastward in early December.

:14clown: A little to early to call it for the whole of next month, in my book, but the chance for cold air (and lowland snow) around the end of this month that some were model riding does now look like it’s going to stay east of the Rockies.
It's called clown range for a reason.
