From John Scheve on Facebook, Picture 1 is the bottom picture and all are in reverse order.

It is just a matter of time - probably within just a few years - that 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐒𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 which continue strengthening and growing worldwide and their associated strengthening atmospheric high pressure heat domes over land coincide in such a way as to produce heat waves far stronger than any ever recorded. The chances of such events are increasing. Human fatalities could reach into the millions in a single one of these events. Other species will suffer similar mortality. We must acknowledge this reality. It is pure insanity to ignore it and not reduce our greenhouse gas emissions.

On June 29, 2021, Lytton, BC in Canada set a new all time record high temperature for all of Canada at 49.6°C (121.3°F). The following day the town burned to the ground in a massive forest fire. There was a record 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐒𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞 off shore (Image 1) and a weather pattern that included an atmospheric high pressure heat dome over the western parts of Canada and the U.S., a small but strong low pressure system offshore of the CA/ OR state line, and another strong high pressure system further offshore (Images 2 and 3). The combination resulted in sinking, drying, warming air over Lytton while hot air swept in at the lower levels of the atmosphere from the SW U.S.

This week, still in late winter, a record 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐒𝐧𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐯𝐞 and long duration heat wave has smashed monthly records for March and even for April in some locations in the U.S. West. There is a record marine heat wave off Southern California (Image 4) and a massive atmospheric high pressure heat dome over the SW U.S. (Images 5 and 6).

112Β°F/44.4Β°C near Yuma & Martinez Lake, AZ and Ogilby & Winterhaven, CA!

This is (by far) a new March US record, only 1Β°F from the April record!
Prior 2026, the March US record was "only" 108Β°F.

Hundreds of March records have been destroyed by a huge margin and it's not over yet...
