We all received snow and lots of it..some more than others. You must have been really hammered by the wind storm??
Thanks Zone8, went out today to Gibsons and Sechelt, I was feeling a little cabin fever, and saw 5 trees that had taken out the power lines, mostly in Roberts Creek area, close to me. These were big trees mostly fir with a couple of cedar. Saw 3 pick up trucks around one big fir on the side of the highway, chunking it up for firewood.

Sechelt had almost no snow, it was mostly in big piles and Gibsons was pretty white on the grass, roads were clear though.

4:29 PM PST Friday 17 January 2020
Winter storm warning in effect for:

Fraser Valley - central including Chilliwack
Fraser Valley - east including Hope
Fraser Valley - west including Abbotsford
Hazardous winter conditions are expected.

A strong Pacific storm arrives tonight with a mix of wintery weather including snow and freezing rain

The storm will arrive tonight with snow beginning this evening across the Fraser Valley. Snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 cm is expected tonight.

As warmer air associated with storm penetrates the region, the snow will transition to freezing rain.

Across the Fraser Valley the transition is expected to occur on Saturday morning. As a result an extended period of freezing rain is expected mainly between Abbotsford and Chilliwack for much of the day on Saturday.

Closer to Hope the precipitation is likely to stay mainly as snow for much of Saturday. The transition to freezing rain will likely occur on Saturday afternoon.

Total snowfall amounts of 10 cm is expected by Saturday evening.

Timing this transition from snow to freezing rain is always challenging in these situations. There is a chance that this transition could be delayed resulting in higher snowfall amounts.

Stay tuned to the latest Environment and Climate Change Canada for all the latest warnings and forecasts.

Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.

Alerts for: Metro Vancouver

Warnings

4:32 PM PST Friday 17 January 2020
Snowfall warning in effect for:

Metro Vancouver - southeast including Surrey and Langley

Snowfall with total amounts of about 10 cm is expected.

Heavy snow expected tonight.

Another strong storm system will cross the south coast tonight. Outflow winds will work to lower surface temperatures below the freezing mark this evening and through to at least tomorrow morning.

Snow is expected to develop late this evening with 5 cm expected tonight. An additional 5 cm is possible Saturday morning.

Warm air aloft will begin to push onto the coast early Saturday morning and with persistent sub-zero outflow winds, a risk of freezing rain exists.

At this point a transition to rain is forecast later Saturday morning, but timing on this matter remains unclear. Total snowfall amounts will depend on when this transition to rain occurs.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.

Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove
Sunshine Coast - Saltery Bay to Powell River
Snowfall with total amounts of about 10 cm is expected.

Total snowfall amounts of up to 10 cm is expected by Saturday morning. In addition there may be a brief period of freezing rain late overnight and early Saturday morning.

The snow will transition to all rain on Saturday morning.

Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.

Snowfall warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.

5:40 AM PST Friday 17 January 2020
Special weather statement in effect for:

Sunshine Coast - Gibsons to Earls Cove
Sunshine Coast - Saltery Bay to Powell River
The next Pacific storm arrives tonight with a mix of wintery weather.

An approaching Pacific storm will bring a mixture of snow, freezing rain, and rain to the south coast beginning tonight and continuing Saturday. Strong winds will also accompany the storm.

The storm will arrive tonight with snow beginning late this evening across the south coast. As warmer air associated with storm penetrates the region, the snow will begin to transition to rain. Timing this transition to rain is always challenging in these situations. There is a chance that this transition could be delayed resulting in higher snowfall amounts. It is also possible this transition will include a period of freezing rain.

By midday Saturday most areas of Metro Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast will have changed over to all rain.

Temps aloft warming. Temps near the surface warmed a bit with daytime heating and clouds have already come. Timing not so ideal for snow.

This will be a quick event IF those SE winds develop. this would warm the region up quickly and kill the moisture associated with front#1 until front #2 passes by and ushers S and SW winds.

If the wind aspect busts then this would prolong snow lasting till Sat morning for Metro Vancouver.

5-10cm seems like a good bet. No confidence Delta or Richmond see much.
