It kinda looks like something wants to happen the first week of Feb. Never mind I was looking at the wrong fight card.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Thats a very good point. We got 5 days of well below zero and the coldest temperatures we've seen in years as well as several low elevation snows. Some people scored big time in the snow department whereas others didn't do so well but I think most if not all people got at least some snow along with the frigid temperatures. Blizzard conditions also developed in some areas. Honestly, what we got was still highly unusual for our region and memorable. Further, I am actually very surprised the models fell apart at the last minute. I thought for sure we'd be locked into this pattern for at least 2 weeks. So WeatherPro, your forecast was very realistic and made a lot of sense based on the models. It was the models that failed, not you.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:48 pm No it didn't WP your first read before this event unfolded you said if the models crash it will still be good by our standards and in my opinion it was awesome, so are you bud.![]()

Wow! I wonder what the highest snow rates have been for Vancouver. The other day 12cm in south Sardis in just over 2 hours so 6.0cm an hour not bad l guess if you average it out that way.

I got 10 cm in an hour last winter in the big storm that hit the south more and scored Gumps the victory of 2018-2019.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 10:00 pm Wow! Why not try cycling to work, grocery store, anywhere!

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Still haven’t got above freezing yet. Crazy. At 0 now so anytime now.
I noticed the freezing levels marked on the mountains with snow. Below freezing from about 500 and less and 2700ft and above.
I hope for a 2 week break from the snow. Tired of pushing it and running out of places to pile it.
Not much rain here today. Probably got 10mm of precip including snow. Not much melt, more densification from freezing rain. Olympic rain shadow at work again.
Surprised too that there isn’t more ice on the Fraser. Thought it would have more. Guess it didn’t really get cold enough and I think the groundwater is warm as the ditches weren’t frozen.
So who did the best job at modelling this one? Obviously the GEM is always way out on precipitation.

Still some week offshore outflow this evening. Weather station near here actually went down some tonight for temp. Talk about the little air mass that could.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Remember everyone to update your snow totals even guesstimates are o.k. Unreal how Monty went from basically afew cm's to surge in the lead over all.
currently down to -2.2c in south Sardis, thinking this should be the last freeze in the central valley tonight 7 nights below freezing not bad.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
No need to feel sorry. No matter how your forecasts play out, I am still pleased to read your posts. Thank you.WeatherPro wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 9:45 pm Sorry guys, my forecast failed.![]()
I thought I was close enough, but all it took was 1 degree warmer which it was, and a lack of moisture, and that lack of moisture hitting too late. It really looked like the possibility was there, and looking at temps in the eastern Fraser Valley even now, it could have been a sustained snowfall and my amounts would have come close to verifying.
Metro Vancouver is the toughest area to forecast and it's a challenge I always like to take on. I miss Vancouver, but it was easier forecasting there when I actually lived there. Now I only have family I visit 2 times a year. Edmonton weather is a breeze to forecast, it's almost boring.
For now, there will be some cool night this week that who knows, you may get a bit of a surprise, but still looking toward the weekend.
Things will cool down again and winter is not over. February always holds some winter weather for Metro Vancouver, so we might see a return to really cold temps in early Feb. For now, take it day by day.
Thanks for your kind words and support.

Re: January 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Not a bad week snow, cold, couple good fights, can't wait for the main event in Feb.
currently a surprising -2.5 considering it was suppose to go above freezing in the central valley Friday or something I lost track.
