The WPO flipping negative is generally a precursor to a PNW arctic blast.

Does anyone have info. on the ultrasonic wind gauge they just came out with them the end of 2019 it's suppose to be more sensitive to wind speeds unlike the cup type I'm thinking of purchasing one you can buy them separately through Ecowitt, I highly recommend these units they are really pushing Davis at half the cost or more for high quality precision weather instruments, sorry wrong post but this question would get lost.

I get what he is trying to say just needs to dumb it down so majority of the people can understand or at least explain himself better.

Typeing3 wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2020 11:50 am A -NAO can work for us in the PNW. However, it has to be in link with a -PNA.

Such a combination is fairly rare but if they both flip negative at once, the cold will lock over our region for a long time...see January 1969 as an example of this.
That would make sense. I'm probably just thinking of cases where the NAO tanks but the PNA is either positive, neutral, or slightly negative. But if both tanked at once, I could see a PNW arctic lock. Thanks for your insights.

I've seen some pretty epic snows in February but they are usually fairly short lived. Do remember one February in late 80's or early 90's where it was a couple of week event but that is rare but not impossible.

I saw that and thought interesting. But would it draw down on power? Thought if it’s wireless it would kill the batteries without sunlight.

Sunlight is that thing that is bright in the sky. We haven’t seen it for a while in case some of you forgot what it was.

Jan 31- Feb 12-14 1989 had a good 2 week event, starting with a robust arctic blast and ending with a good over running event- which only moderated the temps slightly

Question: How badly does a meteorologist have to screw up on their forecast before they get fired?

Speaking of wind gauges, anyone ever had one of these? I did when I was in Grade 9- they were $40.00 back then; now $200!
