Yes, it’s too bad we couldn’t get a clear night or two. Trade off was the snow I guess.

Possibly... but it was also showing 850 mb temps of -23C in the valley... the coldest they got was about -13C, iirc.

I notice one thing my work area near Sumas is absolutely a non snow area seems your locale to the north of my work falls in that zone unfortunately. I hope you find a location you like and for better snowfalls.
Gonna start looking later this month, but I have scanned the listings and there's hardly anything on the market so far. Listings should pick up soon, hopefully.

I usually have a bit more snow than Sumas, though lately it hasn't seemed like it.

Hawk wrote: Wed Feb 05, 2020 7:19 pm Good point Abby Sr. But i do give the GFS huge credits for snagging that cold pool of air 14 days out. Amazing really. It was a VERY cold airmass, and with a cupla small details different, could have been an extremely cold airmass. Alas, the Pacific Ocean was too much. As was the globally warm temps this winter. Considering how warm the rest of the northern hemisphere winter has been the last several weeks, we had quite the cold considering.
Yes, though lacking the correct 500 mb pattern to deliver the anomalous cold to our area, which has been a persistent theme for the past few decades. I'm not sure if it's the Pacific or the warming Arctic playing a bigger role. Either way, the GFS almost always overdoes the south and west-ward penetration of the deep cold pool.

l feel it underestimates our mountinous terrain, it takes a lot to get cold over the mountains.

He is using the Lord's name in vain, even if it's misspelled, totally unnecessary.

00Z GFS and GEFS fell apart. Definitely not the run to run consistency we saw in January. Models can't resolve what happens with that N Pacific ridge.
