Re: June 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Was just woken up by a thunderstorm with intense rain. Red on the radar overhead. Very loud thunderclap.
Edit: in the end it was four rumbles of thunder and about 15-20 minutes of very heavy rain

Seasonably cool for the next 10 days. Might see some heights building slowly after that. I'm guessing we hit a switch where we dont see sustained troughing after mid june. Would be nice to have some sunny weekends soon.

Hearing some thunder now... that would be the fourth, maybe fifth? time already this spring.VanCitySouth wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 5:01 am Was just woken up by a thunderstorm with intense rain. Red on the radar overhead. Very loud thunderclap.

Pretty good thunderstorm around midnight in Bellingham. Not as good as the one last September, but that one was exceptional.
It's called clown range for a reason.

Re: June 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
So, the predictable grumbling begins. I remember the 1990’s. June weather like this seemed much more common then than it is today; in fact, there used to be a rule of thumb in Seattle that summer didn’t really start until after July 4th (which was a chilly and damp holiday about as often as it was a warm and sunny one).
So far as I can see, June is simply being June again. Fear not, odds still disfavor a “bummer summer.†Those things do sometimes happen, but the odds disfavor it. July and August are highly likely to be significantly warmer and drier. A cool, damp June means there won’t be as much time for the forests to get tinder-dry later on, which in turn makes it more likely that there won’t be a smoke season this year.
On the non-weather front, a pair of eagles seems to have decided that my neighborhood is a nice place to hunt. There’s a lot of wetlands in the area, so my theory is they are going after ducklings and goslings. It’s been fun watching them.

Summer’s not far off now. Look at those ensembles. Aleutian low with west coast ridging. It’s coming. Give it a week to 10days.

Re: June 2020 Forecasts and Discussions
Yeah, quite predictable June weather. There will be a spell of hot, sunny weather during the second half of the month, then it will be back to cloudy, cool and occasionally damp before summer takes hold in the first or second week of July.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 10:34 am So, the predictable grumbling begins. Also, we had a very nice spring up until this last stretch of predictably gloomy june weather.

Light at the end of the tunnel. The north pacific high has basically been nonexistent so far this warm season.
